What is Known

What Must be Learned

-Ms. Chou and her students all

have basic knowledge of
computers.

-Ms. Chou must familiarize

herself with operating audio
and video equipment.
Basically, she must completely
learn how to operate the
equipment.

-Her students seem to be

proficient with technology
because she refers to them as
digital natives.
-Ms. Chou has almost no
experience with audio or
video equipment, making
videos, or creating
hypermedia.
-Ms. Chou believes that if she
can implement digital literacy
in her classroom, she can
teach the students the
importance of writing in
todays society.

create and upload videos as

websites.
-Once Ms. Chou has learned
how to operate the audio and
video equipment, how to
create and upload videos, and
how to create hypermedia and
websites, she can then
implement these strategies
into her classroom.
-Ms. Chou will then need to
teach her students how to
operate the audio and video
equipment, how to create and
upload videos, and how to
create hypermedia and
websites.

not seem to be working. The

quality of the students writing
remains poor. It is difficult to
get the students to improve
their writing skills. The
students are uninterested in
the writing process. Ms. Chou
is currently researching new
methods that will hopefully
get the students motivated and
engaged in the writing
process.
The current content that Ms.
Chou has been teaching is not
motivating the students.
Therefore, the quality of her
students writing remains poor
and the students are not
interested in improving their
skills. However, the students
must still learn how to write in
order to meet state-mandated
standards in the curriculum
and pass state-mandated
exams.

strategy that will get her

students motivated to write in
order to improve their writing
skills and the quality of their
writing. Ms. Chou is currently
researching digital literacy.
She believes that this may be
the method to get her students
engaged and excited about
writing.

Ms. Chou must learn how to

implement new writing
strategies in order to teach the
writing standards of her
curriculum. She is currently
researching digital literacy and
believes that this is the route
she needs to take in order to
engage her students. She is
currently looking at
interviewing people in the
community who write for a
living. She wants to make
videos of the interviews and
create hypermedia with her
students. She strongly
believes that through these
methods, she will engage and
motivate her students to
improve the quality of their
writing. She must continue to
emphasize the importance of
writing. Ms. Chou will need
to determine what type of
hypermedia her students will
be creating.

4. b. Ms. Chou will need to determine what her goals and objectives will be with this project.
She will then need to create a grading rubric that she can use as her assessment method. Ms.
Chou will need to learn how to operate the various audio and video equipment that she will be
using for her project. Once she learns how to operate the equipment, she will need to teach her
students how to operate the equipment. She will need to make sure that she has access to the
audio and video equipment for her interviews as well as throughout the entire project. She will
need to locate people in the community who write for a living. She will then need to contact
them and verify that they are willing to participate in her project. She will need to set up
interview times for the students and the local writers to meet. She will also need to determine a
location to conduct these interviews. She will need to determine if each student will be
interviewing a writer, or if only a few students will be interviewing while the other students
operate the equipment as well as perform other duties. She will need parental permission for the
students to participate in this project. Students, with Ms. Chous assistance, will need to develop
a list of interview questions for the local writers. Once the interviews are complete, Ms. Chou
and her students will need to maintain access to the audio and video equipment as well as gain
access to multiple computers (computer lab) in order to upload videos and create hypermedia.
Ms. Chou will need to make a schedule regarding when the students can work in the classroom
on various items or work in the computer lab. Ms. Chou will need to decide what type of
hypermedia she wants the students to create. She will need to learn about this particular type of
hypermedia in order to present it to her students and assist them as they create it. She will then
need to guide her students through the creating process. She will need to be assessing her
students throughout this entire project so that at the end, she can determine if her goals and
objectives have been met. After the project is complete, she needs to gather feedback from her
students about the project. What did the students like and dislike? What did the students think
could be done better? Is there any part of the project that can be taken away? What can be
added to the project? After receiving the feedback and analyzing the project, Ms. Chou will need
to make adjustments, if needed, before conducting the project again.
