Research and Presentation Assignment

Requirements
You and one partner will complete research and preparation for a presentation on an assigned
topic
A presentation outline must be prepared following the model at the end of this assignment, and
handed in prior to your presentation along with your research notes.
Your presentation should be 5-7 minutes in length.
The Written Outline and the Presentation
Your topic must be developed using at least three supporting points.
Each supporting point must be thoroughly explained. Examples and facts must be used from
your research to validate and extend that explanation.
All group members must participate equally in the oral presentation. One polished written copy
must be submitted to your teacher on behalf of the group. This copy will allow your teacher to
review your content to assess the quality of information and the wording of the ideas presented.
Audiovisual is used to enhance the presentation-poster, video clip, music, overhead, prezi etc.

Evaluation-40 marks
Research-10 marks
Use of lab time to do research, evidence of research during the next class day
Use of class time to form an argument, or thesis, and analyze the information gathered
Quality and accuracy of information gathered
Written Outline- 10 marks
Follows the sample exactly
Includes enough detail to thoroughly develop all three points
Facts and examples are used for each point of proof
Transitional wording and lead in statements to AV material are included
The outline shows the presentation is thoroughly prepared and ready to deliver
Quality of Presentation- 20 marks
Both speakers shared the talking equally
Ideas were clearly expressed using good presentation skills-volume, eye contact, gestures,
tone, pacing
Presenters were obviously well prepared and had rehearsed their parts
AV support materials were used effectively to enhance the ideas in the presentation
Other Expectations

Remain with your partner at all times during the work time given for the assignment.

Share equally in the research and the completion of the various parts of the assignment.
Share in the writing of the presentation.
Share equally in the speaking when presenting to the class.
Ask questions if you are unsure what to do for any part of the assignment.

What skills and knowledge are necessary to survive in the North American wilderness? What
are the dangers? What items are necessary to survive?
7. Oppressive Governments
What are they? How do they govern? Historically, what are some examples of oppressive
governments?
8. Class Systems/Caste systems Luke
What are they? Why do they exist? What are some of the divisional factors?
9. The Revolutionary War and Colonial Period Andrew
When did it occur? Who was involved? Why did it happen? What was the outcome/
10. History of Suffering as Entertainment Steph
Trace mankinds history of using the suffering of others as a form of entertainment. Why does
this happen? What does this say about humanity in general?
11. Importance of Appearances in the Media Style over Substance Jake
What fuels our societys obsession with appearance? What are the things people do to look
good? How does the media influence peoples need to look good? Why is appearance so
much more important than substance in the media?

Introduce your topic and thesis statement (3 points)- Dogs make the best
pets because they are the friendliest of all other animals, they make their
owners healthier and dogs are very low maintenance.
Point 1- Dogs by nature are pack animals and therefore enjoy being around
others which means owning a dog has great social benefits for its owner.
Proofs,Examples, AV- They are wonderful with children who usually adore
them too. They are always social with both humans and other animals
including other dogs, cats and even large animals like horses.

Explanation, elaborate- Toddlers and babies are fascinated with dogs as
they try to chase them and play ball with them, even try to catch and pull
their tails. Dogs reward the children by being available to play constantly

and being protective of them. Adults also benefit from owning dogs
because they encourage interaction between the pet and owner, for
example dogs always greet you at the door after a tough day. Adults often
socialize more with other adults because the dogs they are walking want to
play with each other.
