MOTIVATION IN THE CLASSROOM

Educators are always working hard to incorporate state curriculum goals while
trying to keep their students motivated in the classroom in order to reach their full
potential. Developing engaging learners is a critical concept for students to achieve on
state assessments as well as inside the classroom. According to author Jeff Bloom
(2007), The use of technology in the classroom impacts student achievement by making
learning more interesting and meaningful, therefore, motivating students and connecting
them with the rest of the world.
The use of technology has helped educators, parents, paraprofessionals, and
numerous amounts of individuals seek the help that they need in regards to community
resources, educational curriculum and strategies for life. I believe that technology is
extremely important because it enables students to research specific methods as well as
illustrating precise information in regards to evidence-based practices. Technology is a
powerful resource and with this tool, there are so many aspects within ones life that can
change significantly due to the upgrading of technology daily.
According to Parkerson (2011), technology is defined by the system of tools,
skills and knowledge used to make things or perform activities. This includes both
physical and vague skills and the knowledge to use them. Helping students succeed in
their future work and personal life is one goal of education (2011). Educators should
present technology to students in a form where they will want to engage with this
resource daily. Particularly, technology also increases student achievement in school and
motivates them to learn if the educator facilitates the use of technology properly.
It is imperative to develop engaged learners that will become effective contributors
within society as well as allow students to learn how to become responsible for their own

learning. When students take the time to comprehend meaning from a specific
assignment, they are taking charge of their learning and developing into engaging
learners (Parkerson, 2011).
With attention to increasing student motivation with the use of technology,
educators must find techniques to integrate computers and technology-savvy material into
their lesson plan curriculum. Author Susan Haugland contends, that educators and school
professionals must take the time to list the pros and cons of technology in the classroom
and once they have completed this process, they must discuss goals for the each student
and the classroom as a whole (2000). When educators take the time to gather their
thoughts for the purpose of technology in the classroom, there are better chances for
success within the classroom. It is simple central to have a set goal of what should be
done to impact students and how this process will build on their academic learning ability
in the classroom.
Benefits of computer use in the classroom vary among schools and the way
children will interact with everything. However, the use of computer use with the
support of activities with major objectives has truly shown to impact student
motivation and achievement (2000). Haugland asserts that the use of computer
technology, May have significantly greater developmental gains when compared to
children without computer experiences. When children in the classroom gain
developmental gains that will in return increase their knowledge as they learn new
material, students are truly becoming motivated to learn by the use of technology that
will build on the overall student.

MOTIVATION IN THE CLASSROOM

In essence, research is inclining toward the incorporation of technology in the

classroom on the way educators present the tools to students. It is crucial for educators
to take the time to become familiar with software before they facilitate any aspects to
students. The main purpose in facilitating technology is to build on student motivation
and engage students to want to learn and achieve. Instructional technology and student
achievement are by far two important aspects in engaging students to learn and grow in
the classroom. The use of technology builds on increased collaboration with peers,
motivation to want to learn and achieve, and empowerment over choices, desire to
become engaged, and enhanced motivation and self-esteem.
