Martin Luther King
Today we are going to learn about where Martin Luther grew up and who he grew up with. You
will also learn about his adult life, and how he joined civil-rights. Hope you learned about MLK....

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15 , 1929. As a kid Martin lived in Atlanta Georgia.
He spent his childhood growing up in a church. He later became a Baptist Minister. According to
biography.com ,Martin ,both a Baptist minister and a civil-rights activist, has a seismic impact on race
relations in the U.S.A, beginning in the mid-1950s.(biography.com) Martin Luther was just like me
now, being the middle child. Most of Martins family lived in rural Georgia. Martin s grandfather, A.D
Williams, was a rural minister for years and then moved to Atlanta in 1893.(biography.com)When
Martin was 5, he entered public school. He later was baptized in 1936. Later on when he was 12 his
grandmother past away from a heart attack, The event was traumatic for Martin, more so because he was
out watching a parade against his parents wishes when she died,(biography.com) Martin attempted
suicide by jumping of a 2 story building. Fortunately, he was unsuccessful and went on to enroll in
Morehouse College at the age of 15.
At Morehouse Collage he studied law and medicine ,After graduating in 1948, king entered
Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. The
reason Martin got involved in the civil-rights is because Rosa parks refused to give up her seat to a white
man.On that day she was arrested. When martin found out what happened he joined the bus boycott,
''Martin was arrested and his house was bombed. Martin prevailed and segregation on the Montgomery
buses came to an end. ''Martin became his dads assistant when he was 18. Martin was always an ''A ''
student. When he was 19 he graduated from Morehouse College. He wanted to study even more, so he
entered a school in Pennsylvania. The school there had 6 African-American people. "Martin married a
lady that goes by the name Coretta Scott. She was born on April 27, 1927, in Marion, Alabama. She was
known for playing the violin and for singing very well, ''Struggle is a never ending process.Coretta
Scott King.
Martin Luther made a speech on August 28, 1963 in the Lincoln Memorial when he had more
than 200,000 people with him who had created a historical march. That speech was called "I Have A
Dream". "Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a
community, which has constantly refused to negotiate, is forced to confront the issue."Martin Luther king
was elected president in 1957 for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, its formed to make new
leadership for the now burgeoning civil rights movement. This organization he took from Christianity;
its operational techniques from Gandhi." (nobelprize.com) Martin Luther has lead several of
marches. An example of one is the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). It happened on

25 March. On December 1 , 1955 Martin joined Rosa Parks in a boycott that lasted 382 days. On
December 21, 1956, right after the Supreme Court of the USA had declared unconstitutional laws
requiring segregation on buses, African-Americans and American people were able to ride the same bus.
Martin was arrested during the days of boycott ,his home was bombed a few times luckily nobody died
but what is sad is that he lost his home during this event." He was ready to accept the leadership of the
first great Negro nonviolent demonstration of contemporary times in the United States, the bus boycott."
In conclusion Martin changed the world by ending segregation. Without him we wouldn't be
together right now. Thank you Martin Luther for changing the world.
