Modern children are suffering from the diseases that were once considered to be meant for

adults only. Obesity is a major disease prevalent among children. What are its causes and
what solutions can be offered?

The number of overweight children has been increasing dramatically in modern society and it is now
concerned as a worldwide health issue. This essay will explore several major reasons of the problem
and suggest potential solutions.

Many children are suffering health problems like obesity due to a number of important reasons. One
of the most significant reasons is various junk food choices such as burgers, chips, chocolates and
soft drink which are available widely in school canteens and shops. Many children prefer to choose
junk food for breakfast and lunch rather than a healthy food alternative because they are cheap,
tasty and convenient to purchase. Moreover, some parents are unable to make quality time to cook
healthy meals for their children. Another main cause is the lack of physical exercise due to huge
homework requirements and in some cases technological addiction of some children. It is true that
children nowadays spend a great deal of time to sit at home to complete their homework and playing
computer games than being outside to take part in some physical activity, sport or game. As a
consequence, children tend to eat more unhealthy food and do less physical exercise which cause
overweightness.

In terms of consideration, there are several solutions in order to maintain good health including
encouraging children to eat more healthy food and do more physical exercise both at school and at
home. Forbidding the sale of junk food in schools and regular physical exercise as a part of a
schools curriculum are great actions which school authorities should implement. Besides that,
parents are the most responsible people to take care of their children by the way of cooking healthy
meals instead of buying ready-made meals and junk food. They should also encourage their children
to do more physical exercises through putting their children into sports clubs and monitoring the time
they play computer games or watch television.

In conclusion, the vital reasons behind obesity in children are unhealthy eating habits and not
enough physical activities. In order to reduce such issues and maintain good health, school
authorities along with the childrens parents need to be responsible to guide the younger generation
to a more balanced and healthier lifestyle.
