In the novel Angry Black White Boy, idealy portrays the life and the rational
growth of Macon Detornay. The novel is written by a white author named Adam
Mansbach's and consists of a white protagonist whose focus is mainly on the importance
of the main characters whiteness. Macon is a Jewish male from Newton, MA who
attends Columbia University and his design is to be the keenest white boy in history.
Encouraged by his ancestor's racist past, Detornay attempts to absorb himself into the
African-American life and culture so greatly that his whiteness comes to be irrelevant.
Macon part-time job is being a cab driver for money and as persists on his job duties, he
robs many white people. The fact that he does such a thing supports his beliefs towards
the hidden racial inequality that he strongly disagrees on. Nobody really is aware of how
he feels of White people and how privileged they are compared to other races,
particularly the black race. Macon has numerous friends that he socializes with who are
black, which is a very odd thing for the both races to observe that because both races are
usually very different in the way they carry themselves in society and by how they dress,
speak and behave. Although it is not usual to see both races come together, Macon, his

friends and others in the novel show a good representation of both races coming together
to help support the Macons determination to turn the racial lens around and show society
that the cause of racism and/r or black inferiority is due to White Supremacy.
When it was revealed that Macon was the one robbing White people because he
hates their privileges surprises many individuals. It also caused a shocking reaction to
many people because of the way he assimilates the African-American culture when he is
indeed a Caucasian man. It is also shocking to see that because not often do you see
White people commit robberies and talk/dress like African-Americans. As he is a cab
driver, he grows to despise his own race. When he said to passengers, Because you're an
ignorant white devil asshole, and you and everybody like you deserves to be robbed
every day of your life(Manbach 24) he thought horrible of them because they were so
accustomed to getting what that they usually want only because they are white. He hates
the fact that they are full of privileges and comes to realize that the inequality is shown
almost everywhere. The vapors of entitlement that steamed from these yuppies irked
him; they were so fucking sure that the cab would stop for them. They never been
stubbed in their lives, sized up and passed by because the driver thought they wouldnt
pay or that they wanted to be taken somewhere ghetto. (Mansbach 18) Macon is
basically saying that if it were to be a Black person or any other minority, cab drivers

would have to actually think about giving them a ride or not. Black people are viewed as
evil people and thats just the way society has grown to perceive them.
Racism was introduced way before the time Adam Mansbach wrote this novel. It
started in back when Slavery was still present. Racism is something many have
witnessed. Racism was created socially, mainly by how individuals discern ideas and
faces they are not quite accustomed to. Macon makes it clear that many white people
until this day fear the appearance of African-American. Macon takes burden of his
ancestor Anson because he was the man who encouraged the segregated laws when it
came down to sports. When Macon was in his cab, he saw a desperate lady waving at
him for a ride. She got on the car and thanked him, I thought Id never find a white cab
driver. (Mansbach 108) When he said that he started to analyze the whole situation and
it simply comes how racist white people can be. White people automatically think that the
people who are usually committing crimes are minorities like African-American
