Our construction industry needs comprehensive and innovative solutions from design disciplines both from
architecturalandengineeringsector.Thiscanonlybedoneifarchitectsunderstandcomponentsandassemblies.
Understanding individual building components and the details necessitates understanding the guiding
architectural intentions, performance requirements, process of manufacture and assembly, and systematic
organizationofvariousbuildingassemblies.

This course familiarizes the basic materials of construction forming an assembly; according to their physical
properties,durabilityandsuitabilityforuseundervaryingconditions.Useofmaterialsincombinationwithone
another and in the finished product will be examined both verbally and graphically. Emphasis is placed on
appropriateassembly/materialselection.
The course needs to be run in parallel combination of studio exercises and understanding of materials and
constructiontechniques.
