Editorial (Schoology Version)
On November 4th 2014, the GOP (Republican Party) took control of Washington. The
GOP took Democrat controlled Senate seats in North Carolina, Colorado, West Virginia,
Iowa, South Dakota, Arkansas, and Montana. As well as expanding GOP influence in the
House of Representatives.
The major factor that was key in the political overthrow of the Democrat's influence in
the United States Senate is still in question. It is speculated by some that the GOP
takeover was partly cause by the way the Obama administration reacted to issues such as
ISIS. The rise of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) was not inevitable nor
unavoidable, when the Obama administration took American soldiers out of Iraq it
allowed terrorist organizations, such as ISIS, to safely operate in Iraq without fear of
immediate American intervention. Another likely supposition to the takeover would be
that Americans, specifically voters, are tired of the Obama administration and the effect it
is having on America. Senator Rob Portman (Ohio), vice chairman of the National
Republican Committee said, about the Obama administration, "I think its a message
from the American people about their concern about the direction of the country, and the
competency of the current administration." When the Obama administration pulls stunts
like Benghazi after which the administration lied about the details of the murder of an
American Ambassador in the U.S. embassy in Libya, or when the Obama administration

promised that if you liked your health care you could keep it, then millions of Americans
later find their health insurance policies canceled because they did not meet the standards
of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), it is hard to find the Obama administration
credible to what they say.
The best way possible way to keep a seemingly rogue, Democratic, administration
under control would be through a GOP takeover of the Senate.
