Following are the planned clinical activities to be undertaken by Penny L.


Clemens during the Winter Term 2015 at UM Flint. This clinical practice will
be completed at Bishop Kelley Catholic School (Lapeer) and St. Josephs
Catholic School(Lake Orion) under the direction of Principal, Megan Evoy who
will serve as the cooperating administrator and provide supervision for this
experience.
Competency 1: Leadership
Related Task: Job shadow
Narrative Description of Task: Spend a minimum of 10 hours shadowing
the cooperating administrator, Megan Evoy.
Narrative Description: Job Shadowing at the School
Job shadow and assist Megan Evoy, the principal of St. Josephs
Catholic School in Lake Orion Michigan. I will document the experience by
journaling the tasks that she and I perform throughout the day and the
frequency at which she performs them. In addition, analyze and reflect upon
the decision-making process and style she uses as she responds to various
categories of demands or problems. Reflect upon several crucial lessons
learned throughout the day about the art of administration and school
leadership.
Job Shadow Smart Goal #1: By April of 2015, I will job shadow Megan
Evoy as she performs duties throughout the course of the day. I will create a
chart that reflects how she spends her time.
Specific:

Actively participate and shadow Megan Evoy as she leads performs duties
throughout the course of the school day including but not limited to 10 or
more administration tasks that she performs throughout the day.

Measurable:

I will shadow for one day and document a minimum of 10 tasks that he has
to accomplish throughout the course of one school day.

Attainable:

The job shadow will be completed by April 2015.

Relevant:

Understanding all of the day to day duties that administrators perform in


addition to all of the unplanned events that occur throughout the course of
one school day will allow awareness of how an administrator reacts to
unplanned events and how they spend their time.

Timely:

By April 2015, I will attend a minimum of 4 school improvement team


meetings and assist as needed with the process.

Competency 2: Accountability
Related Task: Ability to interpret meaning of various standardized tests to
boards, teachers and lay citizens.
Narrative Description of task: Ability to use assessment data to identify
weaknesses and recommend strategies for improving student performances.
Narrative Description: Analyze the 5th grade Math scores on the IOWA
Test of Basic Skills. This includes doing an item analysis and identifying
deficient areas. Based on the IOWA Test of Basic Skills analysis, a suggested
professional development plan of action will be submitted.
Smart Goal: By April of 2015, do an item analysis of the 5th grade IOWA
test of Basic Skills data that includes identifying proficient students as well as
deficient areas and also offering a professional development plan of action.
Specific:

Analyze 5th grade math IOWA Test of basic Skills trends and establish a plan
of action for a minimum of 2 areas of deficiency.

Measurable:

Establish a plan of action for a minimum of the 2 areas of deficiency.

Attainable:

Identifying achievement successes and deficiencies/gaps in necessary in


guiding future decisions.

Relevant:

Identifying academic deficiencies can guide future professional development


planning.

Timely:

By April 2015, do an item analysis and establish a plan of action to address a


minimum pf 2 areas of deficiency in the 5th grade math portion of the IOWA
Test of basic Skills.

Competency 3: Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision


Related Task: Knowledge of variety of instructional methods and skills.
Narrative Description of Task: Conduct a clinical evaluation cycle using
the Danielson Model.
Narrative Description:
For the past twenty years Bishop Kelley Catholic School has used the
same teacher evaluation tool. This tool lacks the thoroughness that can be
found in more current teacher evaluation models. Using the Danielson
Model, with a staff member, I will do a pre and post observation conference.
I will also prepare a written evaluation based on the classroom observation.
Interview the staff member after the formal conclusion of the post
conference concerning her perceptions about administrative practices or
behaviors that facilitate meaningful evaluations and promote growth by staff
members. Bishop Kelley Catholic School also needs a schedule of formal
walkthroughs. Previously, the administration did not do formal walkthroughs.
I will schedule and perform a formal walkthrough at each grade level.
Smart Goal: By April of 2015, carry out a walkthrough evaluation at all
grade levels and perform one full evaluation of a staff member using the
Danielson Model.

Specific:

Perform a walkthrough in all classrooms Kindergarten through eighth grade.


Carry out from start to finish pre to post evaluation cycle.

Measurable:

Observe 1 teacher and carry out an entire evaluation cycle.

Attainable:

Ongoing teacher improvement and self-reflection allows teachers to improve


their teaching craft and practices.

Relevant:

Teacher evaluations are required by the State of Michigan. Teacher


evaluations offer opportunities for teachers to check their current goals and
set future ones.
By April 2015, I will carry out start to finish the pre to post evaluation cycle.

Competency 4: Community Relations


Related Task: 3.1 Ability to utilize staff and community involvement in
developing goals and objectives for a school or school system.
Narrative Description of Task: 3.1.1 Define a role and work with a
committee of citizens and/or staff to investigate and identify alternative
solutions to a particular problem.
Narrative Description:
Work with Parent Advisory Committee to come up with a volunteer
hour policy. As tuition based school, Bishop Kelley relies on participation in
fundraisers in order to keep tuition rates lower than other private Catholic
schools. The same 10% of families do the vast majority of the volunteer
work. Along with the Parent advisory committee, I will write and implement
a new policy that requires volunteer hours or families will need to pay an
additional amount of tuition.
Smart Goal: By March 2015, in conjunction with Parent Advisory Committee
will devise a new volunteer policy.
Specific:

Actively participate in Parent Advisory Meetings to develop volunteer hour


policy for the 2015/16 school year.

Measurable:

Attend Parent Advisory Meeting on the second Tuesday of every month at


7:00 PM.

Attainable:

The policy will be put into place before April 2015/16 registration.

Relevant:

Policy needs to be put into place in order to spread out fundraising


responsibility.

Timely:

By March 2015, the policy will be published in Bishop Kelley Catholic School

handbook.

Competency 5: Communication Skills


Related Task: 2.1 Knowledge of group interaction techniques
Narrative Description of Task: 2.1.1 Develop goals with a committee of
staff and community members for a school building or school department
within a district.
Narrative Description:
Within our regular staff meetings, I will develop a plan for
implementation of Professional Learning Communities at Bishop Kelley
Catholic School. Initially, professional learning communities will be
implemented by grade level to make improvements in Math instruction.
These groups will meet biweekly as a small group and will report at biweekly
staff meetings.
Smart Goal: By February 2015, I will have developed a plan for
implementing Professional learning Communities and groups will begin
meeting biweekly.

Specific:

Develop a plan for the implementation of Professional Learning Communities.

Measurable:

Attend and participate in Professional Learning Community at least 2 times.

Attainable:

Ongoing curriculum improvement is beneficial for improved student


outcomes.

Relevant:

Professional learning Communities improve student outcomes.

Timely:

By April 2015, Professional Learning Communities will be established at


Bishop Kelley Catholic School.

Competency 6: Organizational Planning


Related Task: 6.7 Knowledge of safety and security plans and procedures to
protect students and staff.
Narrative Description of Task: Meet with local law enforcement to go
over Crisis Management Procedures and write Crisis Management Plan.
Narrative Description: Currently Bishop Kelley Catholic School does not
have an official Crisis Management Plan. The staff meets at the beginning of
the school year and reviews Emergency Preparedness Flip Chart and safety
procedures sheet that goes in the substitute teacher file. As more schools
have dealt with crisis the recommendations from the local law enforcement
agencies have changed guidelines. Before working on a Crisis Management
Plan I will meet with local law enforcement to go over the building and the
local guidelines for a crisis. Having a well-developed plan in which the local
law enforcement is involved is essential for the safety of the students and
staff.
Smart Goal: By April 2014, I will have met with the local law enforcement
and started to develop and updated Crisis Management Plan.

Specific:

Develop Crisis Management Plan.

Measurable:

Meet with local law enforcement review the building, guidelines and plans.

Attainable:

The policy will be in place by the end of the 2014-15 school year.

Relevant:

Preparedness is essential for the safety of the staff and students.

Timely:

By April 2015, the meeting with local law enforcement will have taken place
and a new Crisis Management Plan will be in the development stages.

It is understood that this proposal, once approved by the Cooperating


Administrator and University Faculty, represents the agreed plan of work for
the clinical experience. Upon the satisfactory completion of this plan of work
a grade will be given and credit for the course granted.
