My Philosophy of Education

My education and experience with students has helped me to formulate my philosophy of education. I
believe all students have potential to succeed and should be encouraged and pushed to reach new
accomplishments through hard work. I believe it is important to stay positive with each student and understand
each students learning needs. My role as a classroom teacher is to find the students learning strengths and
guide them through the learning process.
Theorist John Dewey said Education is a social process; education is growth; education is not
preparation for life but is life itself. As a coach of a sports team, I understand that if you can get the players to
buy into the process of continued improvement you will have a motivated team who will have one common
goal of working towards continued growth. As a teacher in an elementary classroom, I will teach with purpose
towards a clearly defined learning goal. I will create a classroom environment for students that is constantly
improving towards providing the best classroom experience possible for my students.
In the classroom, my students will not only just learn the subject areas necessary to pass the standardized
tests. They will learn life lessons and the work ethic that is needed to succeed in the classroom and in life. My
lesson plans will include team work, the use of technology, and cooperative projects that foster positive
interactions with each other. The students concept development will continuously improve through the handson activities that they engage in on a daily basis.
I am constantly looking to improve upon my craft as an educator through attending educational
workshops, webinars and classes. My professional development is continuously growing through being a part of
organizations like the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Science Teachers Association, and
the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development that have strengthened my knowledge of specific
subject-matter content which will lead to improved student achievement. I agree with John Deweys philosophy
of education, because I believe that my role is to guide my students so that they can find and understand the
meaning of learning activities on their own. I am dedicated to acting as a positive role model through my
commitment to excellence in education.
