Abstract: We were given a marble and a ramp and a stop watch or your own phone
to investigate where your marble will hit on the poster. The lab was conducted in a
clean environment in the chemistry lab.

I.

Introduction:
This lab was carried out to determine our grade for the assignment. The
problem drew interest to see what we would score on the assignment and
to see the difference in scores between teams. Students were interested
in the assignment to see if they can land on the perfect bulls-eye which is
50 points. Because of this everyone tried their hardest to get the bulls-eye
and had to go through trial and error.

II.

Theory:
Our theory was that we would land on the bulls-eye and get 100%. We
thought that it would be simple and easy to just roll the marble off the
ramp and hit the bulls-eye but we were wrong.

III.

Experimental Details:
-marble
-poster (with the bulls-eye)

-stopwatch

-Meter stick
-ramp -Marker

-The ramp was set up already, so we had to choose a starting point for our
marble to roll and a end point so we could measure the acceleration of the
marble to figure out where it would land. Also we measured the height of
the table and the distance of where we should put the bulls-eye. So we
started taking test roles and recording our data on paper to see the
average of acceleration of the marble. Then after we did the math and
figured out where to put the bulls-eye. Then we got the teacher and bullseye and did the experiment and after we rolled the marble we failed and
didnt hit the bulls-eye out math was off, we hit 40. So we then did the
experiment again and hit the bulls-eye, but we had to go through trial and
error.
Equations:
Xf = Xi + Vix(t) + (ax)t^2
Yf = Yi + Viy(t) + (ay)t^2

IV.

Results:

H = .93 m
D = .5m
Xi = 0 m
Yi = ?
.
153

Xf = ?
Yf = 0 m
T = .343

Xf = Xi + Vi(t) + (a)(t^2) Xf = Vi(t)

(Vi)(t)
Yf = Yi + Viy(t) + (ay)(t^2) 0 = Yi + (-9.8)t^2
4.9t^2

Xf =
0 = Yi

0 = Yi 4.9t^2
Vix = Distance/ time Vix = .7m / .343
Vix = 3.2608

h = .385 m

Xf = (3.2608)(.436)

Xi = 0m

Vix = Distance /

Time
Yi = ?
30cm
+

D = .5m

Y = -9.8 m/s

H = .93m

Xf = ?
Yf = 0m

T = .343

V. Discussion:

Our results were good and bad. We ended up on the right track to hit the
bulls-eye but we ended up having trial and error and a miscalculation in the
numbers so we didnt hit the bulls-eye and had to restart the experiment. We got
our equipment together and we picked a starting point for the marble and a ending
point, we then measured the time between the 2 points for our acceleration. We
then recorded our data numerous times. Then we did the math and tried to solve
where it would land and how far we would have to put the bulls-eye. We then did
the experiment and failed so we had to do the same process all over and fix our
problems, and out problem was that our times werent consistent. So we fixed and it
and the next try we hit the bulls-eye. We learned that not everyone has the same
reaction time to stop the phones stopwatch so we had to use a real stopwatch to be
consistent. We also learned that we should double check our work and let everyone
go through all the processes of the experiment to see if the data will be the same.
The Equations we used was:
Xf = Xi + Vix(t) + (ax)t^2
Yf = Yi + Viy(t) + (ay)t^2
They helped us find the speed and distance for the marble to land. A is the
acceleration, T was the time, X was the distance initial and final, and V was the
speed, and Y was also distance.

VI. Conclusion:
In conclusion we wrong the experiment was harder than thought, and we had
to go through trial and error to hit the bulls-eye, we had to do the experiment
two times before finally getting the bulls-eye.
