PS1 Professional Growth Plan for: Nov 3, 2014 Dec 9, 2014

Name: Kirsten Grant

Goal: Plan relevant content and activity that takes into account students prior learning, learning
needs, interests and backgrounds.
Teaching Quality Standard Reference: KSA #1, 3, 6, 9,
Strategies
-

Reflect on all lessons after I have taught

them (I will make note of what worked
and what didnt so I can use that to
improve future lessons)
Consistently assessing the students
learning at the end of a lesson (ex. Exit
slip) in order to gain an understanding of
which teaching strategies worked and
which didnt
Get to know my students and build
relationships with them so I learn their
interests and backgrounds
Plan ahead for my lessons, but also be
reactive (depending on how much was
accomplished and learned in the last
lesson in that subject could alter my
lesson)
Incorporate different materials and
activities so the students stay engaged and
learn from various methods
Collect all my lesson plans, and ensure
that I incorporate multiple learning
strategies as well as basing lessons on
students interests (age dependant.) (All at
the same time as accomplishing learning
objectives.)

Reflection/Indicator of Success
a) How successful have I been in meeting my goal?

I think I have been very successful in meeting this goal. I wrote down reflections from every single lesson that I ta
constantly debriefing with my Teacher Associate after the day to get his feedback and suggestions for the future.

made sure I was assessing the students knowledge so I knew where I needed to start with my next lesson. I made
students, and I made it clear to them that I was always available to help them with something we had just learned
needed extra assistance. I always had a well thought out plan for my lesson, and my materials prepared in advan
depending on what point I would get to in my lesson.
b) How has my professional practice improved?

I have learned how important it is to be flexible and adaptable during a lesson. Let the students guide the instruc
never be able to predict exactly how fast students will grasp a concept, and for that reason I have learned that no
exactly as planed. I have learned through experience how to plan a lesson that has much more realistic learning

Students and anyone really will learn most when they are not rushed and especially when they
first have a good base understanding. Therefor student learning improved because I would plan
my next lesson based off of where they students were at in the previous lesson. PS1

Do all necessary work before arriving at

Follow through with all commitments that
I make

younger students)

I think I have been successful in meeting this goal. I was always positive and cheerful in the classroom especially
didnt find time to volunteer around the school much but I helped prep and during a Christmas activity that the g
did together. I was always monitoring the students as I was teaching or they were working. If I noticed they were
enthusiasm in the material, I tried to switch it up and start a new activity. Any commitment I made to the class, I
down so I remembered to follow through with it.
b) How has my professional practice improved?

I am now much more aware of the students and other people around me than when I first started this practicum.
students better and in a sense allow them to guide my instruction. I am now able to read situations in the classroo
appropriately.
c) How has student learning improved?

Student learning as improved because if the teacher makes learning fun, students are more motivated to learn an
more. While working towards achieving this goal, I was promoting learning and teaching effective learning techn
hopefully the students will take with them and use in their next years of school.
