Technology Integration Plan
Pg. 136, item 3, Part 2 a,b,c,d, & e
Lesson Plan Idea: Students will work with partners to research via the internet various
countries that have been chosen for them. Each group will be given one country to research.
The group will then develop a PowerPoint presentation regarding their country. Students will be
given a rubric containing a list of various topics they will need to research and include on their
PowerPoint in regards to their country.
a. Phase 1 Planning Activities
The planning ideas for this lesson include separating the students into groups of
two, assigning one country to each group, and giving each student a rubric with a list of
topics to be researched and discussed. Access to the computer lab will need to be gained
as well as access to laptop computers that can be used in the classroom. A brief lesson on
internet research skills will need to be addressed as well as a lesson on how to work in
PowerPoint. Students will need to have access to flash drives for each group in order to
be able to save their project. If students do not have flash drives, I will provide one that I
can save all the projects on.
The advantage of using the technologies of internet researching, internet
navigation, and PowerPoint is to allow the students to become more familiar with the
amount of information available to them on the Internet. It also allows them to become
more comfortable using the Internet as well as allows them to learn how to present
information in a multimedia presentation format such as PowerPoint.
Below is the Tech-PACK for my lesson plan:

Teachers discuss other

countries and show where these
countries are on a map in
relation to the United States.
Other countries are discussed in
regards to the various wars that
have taken place during the
years.
Students know that there are
several countries in our world.
They can name several of them.

A more in-depth approach for

students to learn about what
other countries are like as well
as those countries similarities
and differences to the United
States.

Students must learn more about

the various countries other than
their names and where they are
on a map. Through this project,
students will learn about the
demographics, the government,
the commodity imports and
exports, the currency, the major
religions, the foods, the
historical places and places to
visit, and the location of these
countries. This project/lesson
allows students to learn about
the similarities and differences
of other countries compared to
the United States.

b. Phase 2 Implementation Activities

There are several objectives for this lesson plan. One is to teach the students about the
countries in our world. The second objective is for the students to be able to identify their
assigned country on a map as well as to identify the continent where it is located. The third
objective is to teach the students the similarities and differences between their assigned country
and the United States. The fourth and final objective is for the students to gain an overall better
understanding of our world.
In order to assess my students accomplishments of the objectives, I will assess
their PowerPoint presentations based on the rubric that I gave them at the beginning of the
lesson. I will also ask questions at the end of each presentation. This will require the students to
think about what they have researched as well as what they have just seen presented. I will
consider this a type of participation score. According to my rubric, each item on the report will
be worth 5 points. There will be a total of 15 items that the students will need to address in their
2

presentation. (This is 75 points.) There will be 15 participation points which consists of how
well the students worked as a group during the research and development of the PowerPoint.
This will also include their participation during the questions after the presentations. Finally,
there will be 10 points for appearance and organization of the presentation. All together, the
project will be worth 100 points.
The integration strategy of this lesson plan will include the following schedule:
Day 1: Introduce the project. Allow students to choose their partner and
choose the country for their report. A list of available countries will be provided for the students.
Spend the remaining class period explaining the rubric to the students and what items are
expected to be covered in their report. If time allows, show students an example PowerPoint
presentation of a project about the United States that I prepared.
Day 2: Take students to the computer lab or set up the laptops in the
classroom. Access Microsoft PowerPoint and show students how to develop a presentation.
Allow time for students to work with their partners and learn how to maneuver in the
PowerPoint. Allow time to show students how to navigate through the internet to look up
information on their countries.
Day 3 Day 10: Allow students time in the computer lab or on the
laptops in the classroom to research their countries and develop their PowerPoint presentations.
Day 11 - Day 14: Students will present their PowerPoint presentations
and discuss their countries.
Day 15: Students will make and bring a food from their country to share
with the class. During this time, I will discuss the project/lesson with the students. Pros and
cons of the project will be discussed as well as what the students enjoyed about the project and
what they did not enjoy. I will also ask them what they think I could do different to make it more
interesting. I will use this information that I gather to make any revisions for future projects.
In order to prepare the learning environment for this lesson, I will need to create
my list of countries for the students to choose from as well as my rubric to give each student. I
will need to reserve the computer lab for a few periods each week during the duration of the
lesson as well as ensure that I have access to the laptop computers for my classroom. If using the
laptop computers, I will need to make sure that they are charged before each class period. I will
also need to contact the technology director to make sure that Microsoft PowerPoint is
downloaded to each laptop and to each computer in the lab. I will need to confirm that the
students know how to perform research skills on the Internet. If they do not, I will need to
conduct a brief lesson on how to research on the Internet. I will need to teach the students how
to develop their PowerPoint presentations. Finally, I will need to ensure that my students have
access to flash drives in order to save their presentations. Students can use their own flash drives
but I will have one available that the students can use.
c. Phase 3 Evaluation/Revision Activities
I would include a rubric when assigning the project. The rubric would list everything that
the student needs to address in their PowerPoint presentation as well as the amount of points
each item is worth. The rubric would also contain a section regarding how well the students
worked with their partners and the amount of participation in the project. At the end of the
presentations, I would have the students make and bring a food from their country. I would use
3

this time as a celebration of our worlds countries as well as an end to the project. However, I
would also use that day as an evaluation period for the project. The students and I would discuss
the pros and cons of the project and what they liked and did not like about the project. I would
use this information to make any revisions for future projects regarding the countries of the
world.

Subject: Social Studies
Grade level: 6th 8th grades
Subject Area: Government, Economics, Geography
4

Major Objective: To identify the location of a country in relation to the United States as
well as learn about the demographics, government, economy, religion, culture, foods,
exports/imports, famous people, historical places, places to visit, animals of that country,
and the military forces of that country. Students will be able to compare and contrast the
country they research with the United States. One final objective is to teach the students
internet research skills and how to present a report via Microsoft PowerPoint.
Materials: Computers with internet access and Microsoft PowerPoint; flash drives
Time Required: Social Studies periods for 2-3 weeks; plus two computer lab periods
per week
Activities and Procedures: Students will choose partners to work on the country project
together. They will then choose a country from a list of available countries to do their
report over. The students will be given a rubric listing what information needs to be
included in their report as well as how many points each item/topic is worth. The first
day will consist of discussing the project and what the students will be required to do.
Students will be shown how to conduct an internet search. Discussion will also revolve
around how to do a PowerPoint presentation and an example will be presented. The
second day will consist of allowing the students to work with their partners maneuvering
through a PowerPoint. By day 3, research will begin on the project as well as the
development of the presentation. This will continue through day 10.
Follow up/Extension: Once all the necessary information is gathered about their
countries and the PowerPoint presentations are complete, the students will present their
countries to the class. This will occur on days 11-14. At the end of the presentations,
each group will make and bring a food representing their country. This will be a way of
celebrating our worlds countries and the end of the project.
