W506: Professional Development Plan

By Jena Hudson
1. Audience - all elementary certified teachers
2. Presentation- I will present this PD at a scheduled PD event in our district. A couple of times a
year, the entire school district meets at the high school for professional development. A lot of
times this PD is taught by the teachers in our district and discusses specific tools to try and to
use in the classroom. The day usually consists of attending four or five one-hour sessions.
3. Tools - online collaboration tools for the classroom. I am thinking of introducing 2 web based
tools that every teacher can incorporate into their classroom. Even though we are 1:1 in our
district, a ton of teachers have no idea about the amazing resources available for classroom
collaboration and creations. For this particular PD session, I will introduce the collaboration tools
of Padlet and Google Docs.
4. Reason - As mentioned above, even though we are 1:1 in our district many of our teachers
struggle to use technology effectively in the classroom. Many of them simply use it in
replacement of paper. Instead, they need to be instructed on how to reach into the top two
levels of the SAMR model. As a result, I will introduce this tools to my colleagues, show real
classroom examples, and provide a brief tutorial on each tool.
5. What would I like my audience to gain? I would like my audience to gain knowledge of the
amazing tools available online. Each of these tools are easy to use and can take their lesson
from the bottom of the SAMR model to the top. By learning how to use these collaboration tools
and ways to use the tools, other teachers will feel more comfortable and eager to use these
tools in their own classrooms.
6. Adult Learning Theory My professional development session will support the principles of
Adult Learning Theory. As we have recently entered a 1:1 classroom environment, I want to
provide my colleagues with tools to use these devices to their highest potentials. I will use the
life and classroom experiences of my colleagues to prove that collaboration, in and out of the
classroom, plays a large role in student success. Through this PD, I will demonstrate my
knowledge of these tools, provide real classroom examples, and discuss methods of
incorporating them into everyones classroom. Through these steps, I can show my colleagues
the practicality of these tools.
7. Where would you like this PD to go? I would like to have tech time to instruct teachers on
how to specifically incorporate these resources into their classrooms. I will begin by explaining
these tools, provide examples, and give a detailed tutorial. After going through each tool, I hope
to provide work time for the teachers to use the tool and create something for their classroom.
By having this extra time, I can walk around and assist those that are struggling or need
clarification. Through this PD, I hope my teachers feel comfortable and eager to incorporate
these tools into their own classrooms. By introducing these collaboration tools, I also hope that
teachers begin to collaborate with each other using these tools instead of using Word or
Powerpoint. I also want them to know that I am available and excited to help them with these
tools or other tech tools if needed.
