In the past decade, the issue of global warming (climate change) has been on the

political forefront in many countries around the world. Every country has coined and
established regulations to mitigate the negative backlash of climate change by the
sudden shift of supply of energy to large resources of renewable energy, thereby
increasing energy efficiency. These environmental specialists have widened their
scope to include social and economic issues.

Sustainability is simply the combination of social progress, environmental stewardship,

and economic growth. Design for sustainability as a concept demands that a product,
be it commercial or industrial and its design process takes into consideration these
criteria that make up sustainability, the economic, environmental, and social concerns.
Sometimes, they are referred to as the mainstay of sustainability. Design for
sustainability is more than sustaining consumer needs; it is another way of promoting
long-term innovation strategies to realize a more positive oriented social,
environmental, and economic impact for the product and throughout its life-cycle.
