Dodge 42, 44, 46, 47 & 48 RE & RH Units

Complaint:
No Reverse, or Intermittent no Reverse, no engine braking in M2 or M1.
Function:
The OD Direct clutch must be locked by the heavy spring at all times except in
4th. In Reverse, the spring pressure on the small OD Direct clutches allow the
reverse rotation of the mid-shaft to be transferred thru to the output shaft.
Without the OD Direct clutch's locked, the mid-shaft will over-run the double roller inside the output shaft causing no movement in Reverse. Additionally if the
OD direct clutch's are not clamped, there will be no engine braking function in
manual 2 or manual low.
Failure:
Wear on the inside of the spring plate allows contact and wear to occur on the
inside of the OD Direct Clutch Hub. Eventually the plate will bind against the
clutch hub and prevent it from clamping the OD Directs.
