Growing up on a family owned dairy farm has taught me to value community involvement and personal growth throughout the community. Iwas expected to give back to the community when able, and to value the help of others when given. In Chenango ‘County, health care is quickly growing as small communities need to have reliable health care close to home. Working as a Registered Nurse at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital has proven to me that a small town hospital can make a difference in a small ‘community. With the changes in insurance reimbursement, the health care reform, and ‘advances in technology, health care has been and will continue to change tremendously in ‘our near future. Due to financial restraints, quantity of patient care i the reality; however, its crucial as healthcare providers to never let quantity replace quality. Quality heath care is a personal goal of mine as a healthcare provider, to not only be able to provide quality health cae to my community but also partake on a larger level including politcal activities. After completion of SUNY IT's Master's program in Family "Nurse Practitioner Stuls, hope to work in Chenango County, asa health care provider {for Chenango Memorial, where I will incorporate new technology and health care advances to facilitate patient centered, quality health ear, 649223-1 AMOy.ou Lowe Pea hace Lie Sapp The University of the State of New York Education Department Office of the Professions REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE Do not accept a copy of this certificate ‘Th one lon it pot i ame abs yore ha a oh ip ee eer get ert (Certificate Nembers 7590498 ROWS MARYLOU A NY 13815-3478 o practice n Now York State through. 08/31/2014. a8 a(n) ‘REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE Pox Te Prorat Selita, sy] 997/337-4079 PYRAZE TO-U-AWE-ATTVD8 9909 s9pIA044 pause wOq sey I -uorrepe.20y wo wopstaes 5.101899 Semenuapa4>) SHAN WELL a4p 44 JoAoddde ponpass9¢ we ‘uoREBOSSy s9EsMN a1EIS AOA MON aM) KG UOHeONpo SupsonM BuINUTUSS 4 sapiaoad posotdde ae 9 (GND) wontonpa Fussiny uUAE 0p amapsuy AYSIOAT EHOW Hes). She is great with the customers. She is always friendly and very pleasant toward them, She is eager to learn. She knows her job well and does not have to be reminded about ‘what has to be done, She arrives to work early and jumps at the opportunity to help us out whenever we are shorthanded. She averages about 20 hours each week. ‘Mary Lou has had an interest in both pharmacy and nursing. She has worked at Service Pharmacy and now works for us here at Eckerd in order to see how an independent pharmacy differs from a chain pharmacy. She also is enrolled in the New ‘Visions program so that she may experience the field of nursing as well. ‘Mary Lou is a well rounded person. She can handle school, work, home and the many other activities she is involved in. T admire her taking time off ftom work (with advanced notice) in order to study for special exams or finish up projects that need to be handed in, She truly loves to learn. ‘As you may know, she is taking college classes while still in high school. Mary Lou is a fine member of our Eckerd team. Fire House rotation While on rotation at the firehouse I earned many interesting things about how the fire station is related to the health field. Not only isthe fre station related tothe health field but also our town and community as a whole. I fel that many people in Chenango County over look the duties ofthe fire station employees. ‘The firefighters and EMT employees are the key to success during emergencies in our town. Without them most people in emergencies would be lft along, with no one to tum to. Most people in our own overlook this aspect. I fel they are not grateful ‘enough for these people. During my rotation I only witnessed one call. This call was a lady with chest pains, she was in the walk in center and we transported her tothe ‘emergency room. We did not give her any medications, although I learned that the EMT's are certified to give patients nitro quick when a hear attack is likely. [also eared that ifthe EMT’s want to give more than two doses of nitro quick they must ‘contact the doctor for verbal permission. This is simply a safety lock for both the patient's well being, and the socurity of the EMT. Another thing I leamed atthe fire house, which bothered me, was th fact that ‘many people in this town will look for any negative aspect of our county to publicize, instead of bringing out some of the positive aspects. One perfect example ofthis isthe constant controversial topic about the fire fighters right for use of the call phones. Many people in the towm feel the fire station cell phone bill is too high, although these people do not realize the importance ofthe cell phoucs. The fire stations staff uses the cell Phones to cal the hospital, or back up during ealls, and to check doses for medications ‘hile on call. Without these cell phones often the EMTS would ben their own when ‘they lose walkie-talkie service range. Firefighters have very unpredivtable lifestyles, the use of cell phones is needed. (One other activity I took place in while spending time at the fre station was Jeaming how to hook up a fre hydrant.
