Attempt the following -— (a) Types of fluids (b) Moody's Chart (©) Metacentre and Metacentric Height (d) Magnus Etfect. (a) Define Total Pressure and Centre of Pressure. Derive an expression for Total pressure and centre of pressure for inclined plane surface submerged in the liquid (b) If the expression for stream function is described by w = x? — 3xy2, determine whether flow is rotational or irrotational. If the flow is irrotational, then indicate the correct value of the velocity potential. (a) 6 = y9 — 3xy? (a) A solid cone (specific gravity = 0-8) diameter, 36cm and height 30cm floats with its apex downwards in water. Is this cone in stable equilibrium (b) Using Navier-stokes equation derive expressions for velocity distribution, pressure gradient, discharge and shear stress in case of couette flow. (a) 360 litres per second of water is flowing in a pipe. The pipe is bent by 120°. The pipe bend measures 360mm x 240mm and the volume of the bend is 0-14m3. The pressure at the entrance is 73kN/m? and the exit is 2-4m above the entrance section. Find the force exerted on the bend using Reynold's Transport Theorem. (b) A thin plate of very large area is placed in a gap of height ‘h' with oils of viscosities 1: and 1’ on the two sides of the plate. The plate is pulled with constant velocity V. Calculate the position of the plate so that : (i) The shear force on the two sides of the plate is equal.
