PART 1. PASSIVE VOICE


What do we mean by "voice"?
Voice is the form of a verb that shows whether the subject of a sentence does the action
(= the active voice) or is affected by it (= the passive voice).
Examples:

In the sentence "James hit the ball," the verb "hit" is in the active voice. In other
words, the form "hit" shows that the subject (James) did the action. The sentence
"James hit the ball" is an active sentence.

In the sentence "The ball was hit by James," the verb "was hit" is in the passive
voice. In other words, the form "was hit" shows that the subject (The ball) was
affected by the action. The sentence "The ball was hit by James" is a passive
sentence.

PASSIVE VOICE adalah kalimat dimana subjectnya dikenakan suatu kegiatan. Sedangkan
ACTIVE VOICE adalah kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh subject-nya.
Contoh:
James memukul bola. (ACTIVE VOICE) dimana subject James melakukan suatu
kegiatan dalam kata kerja memukul.
Bola dipukul oleh James. (PASSIVE VOICE) dimana Bola dikenakan kegiatan
dipukul yang dilakukan oleh James.

Factual report text
Factual Report text adalah teks yang mengambarkan benda atau barang secara apa
adanya berdasarakan kajian ilmiah/ fakta. Factual report text ditulis secara general. Berbeda
dengan descriptive text (teks deskripsi) yang menggambarkan sesuatu secara specific. Misalnya

hingga habitatnya. Sedangkan descriptive text memaparkan KELINCI peliharaan saya yang
lucu.
Bagaimana biasanya report text ini disusun atau ditulis? Tidak lain adalah dengan cara
melihat structure umumnya. Dalam banyak pelajaran yang membahas genres teks bahasa Inggris,
dinyatakan bahwa teks report itu disusun berdasarkan struktur sebagai berikut:
1. General identification: Object apa yang mau digambarakan, biasanya bersifat umum dan. tidak
sepsifik.
2. Descriptions: Hal-hal apa yang menjadi ciri object tersebut sehingga berbeda dengan object
yang lain. Biasaya meliputi parts (bagian), custom (kebiasaan), dan function (fungsi)
Untuk lebih jelasnya mari kita lihat 9 contoh text report tentang binantang atau hewan dalam
bahasa Inggris berikut ini! Karena contoh ini hanya berkenaan dengan binatang maka dalam
generic structurenyapun porsi terbesar adalah custom atau kebiasaan dari binatang tersebut.

BUTTERFLY
Have you ever wondered about butterflies? Despite their small size,
butterflies are some of the Worlds most wondrous animals. Their beauty, seemingly
miraculous metamorphosis, and apparently carefree flight all spark our imaginations.
As advanced insects, butterflies and moths have a complete life cycle. This
means that there are four separate stages, each of which looks completely different
and serves a different purpose in the life of the insect. They are eggs, caterpillars,
chrysalises, and colorful butterflies.
Butterflies and moths are found on all continents except Antarctica, and
scientists estimate that there are approximately 12-15,000 species of butterflies.
In the United States and Canada, more than 750 species of butterflies have
been recorded. Many species of a few kinds of butterflies are still being discovered.
There are still thousands of butterfly species that have not been found or
described by scientists. There is much to be learned. Who are the next scientists?

Kinds of Earthquake
Earthquake often happens around us. It brings great damages. Earthquake is hard to be predicted and
that makes lot victims. Actually there are three kinds of earthquake. This kinds of earthquake are commonly base
on thefactor and geological area where the earthquakes happen. These three kinds of earthquake are tectonic,
volcanic and explosion.
Tectonic earthquakes is most common one. This kind of earthquake happens while earths crust rocks
break because of the geological strength created by moving of the earths plates. Volcanic earthquakes happen
exactly with volcanic activity. Volcanic earthquakes are when the volcano produces acidic lava, which drys

quickly, when it drys quickly it blocks the top of the volcano. This make no more magma can escape. Pressure
starts to build up and eventually the acidic lava can no longer stand the pressure. So the volcano is free to
explode, the pressure is released so fast that an earthquake is caused. A volcanic earthquake is usually kept
within 10-20 miles of the volcano.Explosion earthquakes are the result of the collapse earthquakes that are small
earthquakes occurring in underground mines and caverns.
