Reading
4.4 The student will expand vocabulary when reading.
a) Use context to clarify meanings of unfamiliar words. b) Use knowledge of roots, affixes, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones. c) Use word-reference materials, including the glossary, dictionary, and thesaurus. d) Develop vocabulary by listening to and reading a variety of texts.
4.5 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of fictional

MORNING Nationals DAY 2, Capitals DAY 2, DC United DAY 2 (20 minutes each) NO REDSKINS 1. We are going to keep reading _____________ and practicing STP 2. Today you will read to find out read this part on the other page. 3. Go over words they may not know. WRITE WORDS, PAGE NUMBERS, and DEFINTION ON WHITEBOARD a. Do this for ALL New VOCAB on other page. 4. Remind students the STP strategy. Read a page, stop, think, paraphrase in one sentence. Do this for each page you read. Cover page with hand. Paraphrasing should be quick and to the point. If you cannot retell what the page is about, REREAD. 5. Explain to students to pick 2 pages to write down their STP after they read. Do this in their reading notebook. 6. Then have students read on their own. 7. Have students share STP from each page and have every student share. 8. Have students fill out new words in back of Reading Notebook. If no students come up with words do one already discussed for whole group. 1 or 2 word definition. Students can add more if have time.
