Model bodyshop_refined

Frame Bodyshop is build up in more detail:

Also Closures is modeled in more detail:

Body Shop Closures: Total Availability 87.51% (calculated)

Availability of total Body Shop: 91.33% (

with buffersize 20)

Question: Which buffer capacity makes sense?

Settings of Experiment Manager:

Output: Drain.statNumIn

Input: buffer size in grades 1, 3, 5, 10,

15, 20 and 40

Result: with increasing buffer capacity, the

output of parts increases. But the
confidence interval of Experiment 6
(buffer capacity = 20) partly covers the
confidence interval of Experiment 7
(buffer capacity = 40). This suggests that
doubling the buffer capacity from 20 to 40
does not result in significant increase of
the throughput

Separate simulation run with a buffer capacity of 20

Analysis of histogram Bufferhistogram:

Buffer B_BS and buffer B_PT with

a capacity = 4 are good sized. The
time portions at higher capacity
are below 10 %
Buffer B_ST generally runs full
independent, which capacity is
assigned to him. This is caused by
the different cycle times.

Buffer B_Roof shows two maxima: at 0 and

at 20. Obviously, the buffer is full, if one of
the stations of closures is disrupted. The
stations are direct coupled so every
disruption directly affects buffer B_Roof.

To get the necessary buffer capacity for each buffer separately we create another experiment. Again
we use the number of parts produced as result value. The
input values are defined as the buffer capacities. For each
buffer we define different values for the capacity.
Keep in mind: only one value should be changed at each
experiment. This enables us assigning effects to a specific
setting.
In the first three experiments we only change the capacity of B_ST
between 1, 3 and 5. We fix the value of five and change the value
for the capacity of B_BS and so on.

The result of the experiment run is shown in figure on right side. The result of experiment 2 and 3
shows that the number of parts cannot be
increased by increasing the capacity of buffer B_ST.
The experiments Exp07 to Exp11 shows that the
number of produced parts is not depending on the
capacity of buffer B_PWT.
Buffer B_PT and Buffer B_ROOF have direct effect
on the number of products produced.

Comparison_Run

In this model network BodyShop_refined is used twice. The two models are used with different buffer
capacities. This enables the direct comparison of the results depending on the buffer capacity
