Dear Parents/Caregivers of Room 4 students,

Welcome to the new school year at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School and
especially into Room 4, Matai Whanau. My name is Angelique Van Weerd and I
have the pleasure of teaching your children for 2015. I would just like to take this
opportunity to say hello and provide a few things to note.
Absences
It is important that your child attends school regularly, however if your child is
away, I do require notification. Please send me an email, note or contact the
office.
Uniform, P.E. Uniform and Uniform Passes
Occasionally students do misplace items of uniform. Please ensure that all items
of uniform are clearly named. Full school uniform is expected every day.
P.E. uniform is required with appropriate sports shoes every day.
If, for some reason, your child does not have their correct uniform or P.E. uniform,
please send me a note or e-mail and I will issue your child with a uniform pass.
An alternative T shirt and/or shorts is required for that day(s) that your child is
unable to wear correct P/E uniform.
Cell Phones/Valuables
Students who bring cell phones to school are required to hand these in each
morning so that they can be locked away safely during the school day. The same
applies to wallets/money and keys.
Homework
Homework is expected to be completed and handed in on time. Homework club
will be provided for students in Matai. This is a great opportunity to take
advantage of extra teacher help, books and access to the internet. A letter
outlining homework will be sent home closer to the time when homework will
start being sent home.
Class Website
Room 4 has a classroom website which as parents you are welcome to view at
any time. I will be updating this site throughout the year with notices, homework
reminders, links to website the class uses, photos, learning updates etc. You can
also access this letter on there under the Notices tab. Feel free to browse this
site as often as you want as well as give me feedback as to what you, as parents,

Whanau Matai
Whanau Matai is made up of four classes: two Year 7 and two Year 8. The other
teachers in Whanau Matai are:
Room 1 Mrs Jade Dobson, Year 8
Room 2 Mrs Jenny Howsam, Year 8

Room 3 Mr Bert Iosia (Whanau Leader), Year 7

Intermediate is a new and exciting place for our kids to learn through a range of
challenging and interesting experiences. The next few weeks will be spent
building relationships within the class, expectations, testing and providing your
child with information on the schools systems. This will be the foundation for a
fabulous year in Room 4.

Parents Homework
