The Ohio constitution and the U.S constitution

are similar in some ways but they are different
also.

Comparison

Both of their preambles are short.

The Ohio preamble states, We, the people of the State of Ohio, grateful to Almighty God
for our freedom, to secure its blessings and promote our common welfare, do establish
this Constitution.

The U.S. Constitution states, We the people of the United States, in order to form a more
perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common
defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves
and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of
America.

Both mention welfare.

Both constitutions have a bill of rights.

Both bill of rights cover the same stuff but the ohio constitution has more.

The ohio bill of rights covers things like bail, right to alter, reform, or abolish
government and repeal special privileges.

For example, the ohio bill of rights state that you can not be imprisoned for
debt and damages for wrongful death.

The Ohio constitution covers more personal rights.

The Ohio constitution has more articles than the U.S. constitution because
it goes into more depth.
The Ohio constitution covers legislative, executive, judicial, elective
franchise, education, public institution, public debt and public works, militia,
county and township organizations, apportionment, finance and taxation,
corporations, Ohio livestock care standards board, miscellaneous,
amendments, elections, and municipal corporations.
The U.S. constitution covers the legislative department, executive, judicial,
state relations, mode of amendments, prior debts, and ratification.

The state of Ohio deals a lot with law. Ohio

decides what to do with criminals that have not
committed a federal crime.

History of Ohio constitution

In 1803, the representatives of the had to
submit a constitution to the United States
congress of approval which was a requirement
of the Northwest Ordinance. It soon became an
active constitution. Later, Ohios constitution
was considered to be weak. It had the
legislative branch holding most of the power.

The state legislature became perceived as
corrupt. The new constitution addressed
checks and balances of power in 1851

In 1912, voters adopted 33 of 41 proposed
amendments.

Westerville Government
The city council sets policy, establishes goals,
approval and oversees the citys annual
budget.
The city manager, manages the operations of
the city and reports it to the city council.

Parks and Recreation

The city of Westerville has a recreational
department. They give the citizens of
Westerville places where they can workout or
take classes and organizations to learn. Its
funding comes from Westerville taxes.

physical framework which help support
activities and programs that define the
community.

Communications Dispatchers
The Communications division is in charge of
emergency, police, fire, and medical
emergency. They have a mutual aid agreement
to respond to emergencies in neighborhood
jurisdictions upon request

Planning and Zoning

Planning and Zoning is based upon appropriate
land uses, transportation, housing, and
preservation opportunities. The department of
planning and zoning controls three areas of
work which are, building, enforcement, and
engineering.

The Building Department provides protection
life, health, welfare, and property for Westerville
Citizens.

Planning and Zoning- Enforcement

The Enforcement division is responsible for the
enforcement of several city codes and
ordinances. This includes home construction,
excessive trash or debris, recreational vehicles,
fences, and grass/weeds.

Planning and Zoning- Engineering

The Engineering division is responsible for planning, design, construction, and
inspection of the citys public infrastructure improvements. The engineering
staff manages much of the Citys Capital Improvement Program, including
transportation, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water distribution projects.
Engineering staff also provide technical support to other City departments,
developers, and citizens with respect to utility locations, stormwater
management, water distribution, transportation planning, traffic, neighborhood
traffic issues, and other engineering related items.
