Procedure
1. Introduce Research Project (10 minutes)
Teacher will introduce the new class book, Night, and briefly speak about
the memoir. Teacher will then introduce the research project to students and
present the following information on a Google Presentation
(https://docs.google.com/presentation):
Research Topics:
o Elie Wiesel

Individual Research Requirements:
o Use at least three credible websites
o Write fifteen key facts about topic
o Find four quality photographs
o Find at least one diagram
o A short video clip (30 seconds or less)
Teacher will then post the syllabus (posted below) and explain the expectations
for student research and Keynote slides.
2. Team Planning (5 minutes)
Students will be placed in teams of three. The teacher will have one member
from each team come and select a topic from a hat. Teams will create a team
Google doc (https://drive.google.com), come up with a plan of action, and write
down specific areas of research for each team member.
3. Research (25 minutes)
Students will use their laptops to research their topic and complete the individual
requirements. They will compile their information on their team Google doc
and include the links to the websites they used for their research.
4. Organize, Summarize Information (10 minutes)
Students will organize their research into clear categories (links to websites,
images, diagram, video clip, and list of facts). Students will then write a short
paragraph summarizing their information and reflecting on their research
process
5. Create Keynote Slides (15 minutes)
Students will create two to three Keynote slides using their research information.

Students will share their slides with their teammates and compile these into a
team Keynote presentation. Students will check the work of their peers and
make any necessary corrections (spelling, grammar, content). Students will
arrange slides in a logical order.

Information
Accuracy and
Completeness

All content for research

and keynote is accurate.
There are 15 or more key
facts with no factual
errors.

Most of the content is

accurate, there are 13 or
more key facts listed, and
there is one piece of
information that might be
inaccurate.

The content is generally

accurate, there are 10 or
more key facts listed, but
one piece of information
is clearly flawed or
inaccurate.

Content is typically
confusing, there are less
than ten key facts listed,
and contains more than
one factual error.

Research Quality

Students cited 3 or more

credible sources for their
research and included the
links to each website.

Students cited 3 or more

fairly credible sources for
their research and
included the links to each
website. One link did not
work.

Students cited 2 or more

fairly credible sources for
their research but did not
include the link to each
website.

Students cited less than 2

credible sources.
Websites were not
credible and should not
have been used for an
academic source.

information being
presented, and enhances
the presentation.
