identify alternatives for the responsible use and disposal of materials.

25 min

Review time
Split students into two groups
Tell students that as a group they
need to go through the terms on
the board as a group and make
sure they know as many as
possible
Modified Catchphrase
Have students sit in desks
around the classroom,
alternating between teams
Set a random timer
One student has a stack of cards

Have students in partners

instead of individual
Teams have 5 help lines, if
they need to pass they can,
they can also se a line to
flip the card over to look at
the definition on the back
of the card

with terms, they must try to get

their teammates to guess the
term by saying clues, without
saying any part of the term
Once a teammate guesses the
term correctly the student passes
the card on to the person beside
them
When the timer goes the team
not holding the cards wins the
round
Closure:

Have students return to their own desk

and start to get ready for next class

1. Identify plant and animal wastes,

and describe how they are recycled in
nature. For example, plant leaves
serve as a source of food for soil
insects, worms and other creatures.
The wastes of these animals may
then be further broken down by molds,
fungi
and bacteria.

2. Identify and classify wastes that

result from human activity.
3. Describe alternative methods of
disposal, and identify possible
advantages and disadvantages of
each.
4. Distinguish between wastes that are
readily biodegradable and those that
are not

Review period before playing the game helped refresh their memory in
order to make the game a little easier for them
Once the game got going almost all of the students were engaged and
participating
Having the students work in partners while playing made things a little
more confusing to explain BUT helped a lot so students who didnt now
a term were not singled out
Make a rule that if it isnt their team playing they cant talk at all, it got a
little difficult for team members to hear each other
Try and find a way to explain the rules so there is less confusion
Create the partners before instead of having students choose because
there was a group in which neither person was really participating and
had they been with another person they would have been more inclined
to participate
Plan for extra time to explain the rules of the game for the first time,
always try to use games that you could play again in a slightly different
way so that time is not wasted every time during the explanation
