National Association of Hispanic Journalist-Nevada Board Meeting


Thursday, October 8, 2014 at
Starbucks at 4780 S Maryland Pkwy
The NAHJ-NV Chapter Board Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Roll Call Board members were present:
President, Yesenia Amaro
Vice President, Monica Prado
NAHJ Region 7 Director, Michelle Rindels
Associate Regional Director, Luz Gray
Secretary, Sandy Lopez
Social Media Manager, Erik Verduzco
ABSENT: Treasurer, Ana Ley
The meeting was called to discuss the new leadership roles at NAHJ Nevada.
Previous Board Meeting Minutes were not presented.
New Business:
Board members suggested posting minutes on its website,
nahjnevada.blogspot.com.
Social Media Manager Erik Verduzco recommended using GoDaddy.com as
the domain provider as the future NAHJ domain. It would cost approximately $20
for two years. A couple of board members mentioned that Vincent Hernandez
was working on finding a domain provider.
Board members discussed creating an internship application online.
Ideas for blog. NAHJ Region 7 Director Michelle Rindels mentioned creating a
member of the month blog post, which would share members accomplishments
and current work. Also proposed was a member news blog post, recap of events
post, 12 questions post/video and a video highlighting participants
accomplishments.
Michelle Rindels suggested tweeting about members on the move with the
hashtag, #NVmediamoves.
Financial situation. Michelle Rindels and Associate Regional Director Luz
Gray spoke about the chapters finances and how to deal with the money, which
goes directly to executive director Ana Lopez, alopez@nahj.org, who handles the
account and submits all checks and cash to national. Receipts and
reimbursements must be sent to Lopez who can write out a request for
reimbursement. Gifts may also be accepted as an in-kind donation. Request for
money must be handled through Lopez. Treasurer Ana Ley is to be in charge of

money.
Social media accounts. Social Media Manager Erik Verduzco is to be in
charge of the groups Twitter, Facebook and blog. Luz Grey recommended
changing Facebooks timeline photo once a month and updating it with news of
region chapters, photos of the group at events and video announcements.
Verduzco is to be in charge of retweeting posts from NAHJ members, community
Latino news and promoting NAHJ events.
Michelle Rindels advised President Yesenia Amaro to send out the newsletter
at 9:15 a.m. on a workday to reach more people.
Secretary Sandy Lopez is to be in charge of keeping an updated contact list.
It was also suggested that the chapter plan an activity once a month. Ideas
include workshops, barbecues and cafecitos.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:26 p.m.
