I found this course challenging, but engaging. For the IB requirements the labs have less structure than what I am used to and that has given me
some struggle, but my teacher has always given me help if I need it and helps explain more confusing concepts.
1/5/2015 10:16 AM
Overall this course has been very interesting. Before this year, I did not know what to expect when I joined Enviro. However, now I understand that
this course is about different natural processes and the anthropogenic impact on Earth. This course has maintained an appropriate level and speed
so that I am challenged in the assignments, but the workload has not been overwhelming.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
This course has been very engaging, and exposes a lot of major world issues. I find that because of this the material and information is very easy to
grasp and apply, which leads to great enjoyment of the course. I find the smaller class size to be quite beneficial, and I also find that the class
dynamic is quite good.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
Enviro has a lot of really interesting course material, but we do fall into the standard lab then test then lab then test format of normal science
classes, and I think enviro is suited for something a little more complex. For example a research paper?
1/5/2015 10:14 AM
I can't fault Mr. Erlandson for the course, he has done a good job. Personally, I am just not a fan of the course material so I have not enjoyed me
time in the class as much as a should have.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
This class is definitely one of my more difficult classes. Most of the classes consist of Mr. Erlandson presenting information in the form of a power
point as we listen to his lecture on the topic. Many might have a positive experience with this form of learning but I would rather have more
explanatory forms of learning. I feel like a lot of the powerpoint information is reviewed too quickly and goes over many of our heads.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
I've had a good experience in this course so far- a lot of the material in this course does well to explain natural phenomenon and the wellestablished theories behind them without being overly specific.
1/5/2015 10:12 AM
I really enjoyed this course learned alot not only about science but how to study

I like it a lot. I've learned a lot. The labs allow for a lot of independent work, which is both fun and challenging.

The in-class activities help me learn the course work better. The labs either help enforce a topic that we gad already learned or helps to introduce a
new topic of study that we learn while completing the lab. Other activities, like in-class discussions and power points, also help me learn the material
better.
1/5/2015 10:16 AM
The reading each night helps me understand and learn new material. The In-class activities and discussions further cement this knowledge. The
labs help me apply my knowledge in different scenarios. Finally, the tests examine my ability to remember, understand, and convey my knowledge
of the material.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
The assignments and in class activities help me greatly understand the material we are learning. Almost evert assignment or lab is directly related
to what we are currently learning, which helps be further my understanding of topics by actually applying what I am learning.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
Like I said before, the assignments are fine, but they could be made better by making them more creative. Especially because Enviro is both a
humanities and a science course.
1/5/2015 10:14 AM
In the first half of the year, I was a very busy individual with a large amount of commitments. The homework is often long and sometimes I fell
behind. However, when I had read the material and was up to date, I understood material pretty well.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
The assignments mostly consist of large chunks of reading at the beginning of a unit followed by an in depth synthesis of all of the info. I wish it was
more broken down into chunks.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
I especially enjoy the online readings we do as those are very specific and insightful to the topics at hand. They supplant the book well and provide
great background information. The labs have been an interesting mix because we haven't always gotten the results we want.

They help pretty well. Some of the labs have helped reinforce concepts and the tests were tests.

The most effective part of the teacher's teaching is going over the material after the class had read it the night before. Having seen the material
already helps the class be more engaged and helps explain points that may have been difficult. The least effective is when there is not enough time
to go over all the readings and some information is left out when it is reviewed in class. This exclusion leads to some holes in the knowledge of the
class.
1/5/2015 10:16 AM
The most effective part of Mr. Erlandson's teaching has been his ability make each class very exciting, and he is very skilled at using many different
methods to teach us the material. The least effective part of his teaching, is sometimes when we receive comments on our labs and tests, they are
sometimes not specific in explaining how I could improve aspects of these assessments so I can do better on the next ones.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
Mr Erlandson is very good at engaging the class when teaching presentations. He is also very good at explaining topics or ideas when kids do not
quite grasp it yet. I cannot quite think of the least effective thing, maybe that the tests are on a wide variety of topics, and not all material ends up
being tested.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
Mr. Erlandson is especially helpful if I come to him on my own for extra help. He's always friendly and willing to share personal experiences to
illustrate his points.
1/5/2015 10:14 AM
Most effective: The incorporation of real-world events before explaining the inner mechanisms behind such events Least effective: not really his
fault, he assumes I know a lot of terminology that I simply do not.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
Mr. Erlandson provides great visual aids for us by using the power point. I wish he did not go through it as quickly.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
The discussions have been effective in engaging me with the material and I have no complaints about the instructor's teaching methods.
1/5/2015 10:12 AM
he really explains stuff but alos leaves just enough room for you to figure it out by yourself
1/5/2015 10:12 AM
What has been most effective have been the powerpoint online that he explains in class and are reviewable online at home.
1/5/2015 10:11 AM
10
He knows a lot about encironmental science and is clearly passionate about the subject. This vigor seeps into students as well
1/5/2015 10:11 AM
11
Most of his method's have been good. The powerpoints are probably the most effective while the Stella models are probably the least effective.

The most helpful labs were the first couple labs that helped show the expectations for the course and how to use the equipment. The least helpful
lab was the Mung bean lab that was grown after break. I felt like the toxicity curve could have been understood without a lab.
1/5/2015 10:16 AM
The most helpful lab was the Dose Response Curve Lab because it helped me understand difficult topic. The least helpful lab was the Retention
Basin Lab, because I did not feel as though the lab actually helped my understanding of the subject.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
The most helpful labs were the mung bean lab, and the Yeast Lab.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
The turbidity lab was most helpful, and I think the lab with the seeds was least helpful because we all knew what our results were going to be. Also,
LD50 is a fairly simple concept, and therefore didn't need to be supplemented by a lab. A different topic might have been better to base our lab for
that unit on.
1/5/2015 10:14 AM
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
The first lab was very vague and extremely difficult to follow. There should have been more explaining especially in the AP/ IB form of lab
structruing and the way it differs from those labs written previous to this class.
1/5/2015 10:13 AM
Most helpful was the toxicology lab and least helpful was the insolation lab.
1/5/2015 10:12 AM
1/5/2015 10:12 AM
Most helpful was probably the yeast lab, and the least helpful was the retention basin lab.

Yeast lab was most helpful. Retention basin was the least helpful
1/5/2015 10:11 AM

The first was most helpful the second to last was the least.

All labs were helpful except for CO2 lab (too many procedural setbacks)

The average workload was reasonable, although some night do have a lot of reading.
1/5/2015 10:16 AM
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
The workload for this class is just right. It's not to overwhelming, but it is just enough where it forces you to learn the material.
1/5/2015 10:15 AM
1/5/2015 10:14 AM
It was a little much at times, but that could've been my unreasonable amount of extra curriculur activities. He reading were long and to truly
understand them needs extra time that simply didn't have.
