Your child has been identified for AVID Saturday School intervention. The goal of this program is not to punish students for poor grades, but to intervene and provide support to students that need it. Our goal is to prepare students for college, and that starts with success in their high school courses. AVID students are assigned a Saturday school if they have a D or F in an A-G course (math, science, history, English). Students are expected to continue to attend Saturday school until they are passing all of their classes with a C or better. A student can become exempt from a Saturday school if their teacher signs the form indicating that they are passing the class. (On the back of this form) AVID teachers have assigned Saturday school contracts based on Q pulse reports that show students that have below a 70% one or more course. During the Saturday school, students will be expected to work on homework and classwork for the courses they are failing. An AVID teacher will facilitate the Saturday school and core teachers, as well as college tutors will be present to provide additional help and support.
This intervention will start on Saturday, November 15 from 8:00
am- noon (4 hours). Failure to attend Saturday school may result in removal from the AVID program. If you have any questions, please e-mail or call your childs AVID teacher.
Sincerely, Santiago High School AVID
