DISCUSSION POSTS

SPECIALIZED
VOCABULARY: While
reviewing the
assigned readings,
make note of
specialized
vocabulary terms that
are new to you or
need further
explanation or
clarification. In your
discussion posting,
select 1-3
specialized
terms and write a
brief statement of
their meaning to
online teaching and
learning as you
understand it.

APPLICATION: After
completing the
required readings,
consider the
implications or
applications from
your insights.
Share one
example from either
a teaching or learning
perspective that
illustrates how your
new insight might
shape current or
future praxis. Your
response should be
concisely written -approximately one
paragraph.

The goal of this approach is to help

you as the learner highlight key
points from the reading as well as to
share insights, knowledge, and
practical applications from the
readings. The writing of your initial
post is not meant to be a
burdensome task. You may find
composing your post using a word
processing software and then
copying it to the discussion board.
The emphasis with this approach to
a threaded discussion is on
developing concise written
statements rather than unstructured
commentary.
The process for your initial
discussion posting involves the
following elements:

INSIGHTS: While
reviewing the
assigned readings,
keep a running list of
bullet points from the
readings
(approximately one or
two sentences each).
After completing your
insights list, go back
and prioritize the
insights and select
your top 3-5
insights to highlight
in your discussion
posting. Following
your list, write a
concise summary
statement that
synthesizes your
major insights.
