CAREER RESEARCH PAPER

Carlie Halls B10

I have always loved working with numbers, and I soaked up everything that my financial
lit teacher told me last year. So when my prom date told me what his father does as a Financial
Manager, I couldnt wait to learn more about it because at that moment I could finally visualize
myself in a job that I would love every day of my career. Originally I had thought of doing
something such as accounting after talking to my grandma and aunt about their accounting jobs,
but Financial Manager sounded like it would be a much better fit for me because of its multiple
faucets. Financial Managers are responsible for all the monetary affairs of major companies.
They write financial reports, cash-flow statements, analyze market trends, and help management
make the best financial decisions for their companies. Their goal is to help the company
maximize its profits, and because of the legal nature of finances they are also required to be
meticulous and timely.
The minimum degree for a financial manager is a bachelors degree in finance,
accounting, economics, or business administration. However many earn a masters degree in
business administration, finance, or economics. Most financial managers have had at least 5
years of experience in another financial occupation - such as accountant, auditor or financial
analyst - and moved up. Employment is projected to grow by 9 percent by the year 2022. The
competition is high because more people apply than there are jobs for even though it is growing
at the average rate for all occupations. But for those that can get a job in this field the salary is
rewarding. The median salary in the year 2012 was $109,740 per year; the highest salary in 2012
was $187,199. Being able to use my organization and communication qualities would make this
the perfect career for me.

Many of the schools I am interested in offer the bachelors and masters degrees needed to become
a financial manager.
