Introduction:
This report is about a research of a specific career that a person would like to get in the
future, the interview was made with a person that has a similar career to get answers and
help with any questions. The career that I am writing about is Auditor whether in private or
public corporation. Auditing is the career that meets with my qualifications and skills, I
would like to work in this field one day. The report will contain of two different sources of
information, Primary research which will be an interview with an Auditor, and secondary
research from the internet about the job.

Body:

Job research:
Auditors are involved with several tasks as they collect and analyse data in order to detect
any lack of controls, give recommendations to the management about changes in
operations and financial activities, prepare complete reports, etc. Most important, review
account books and accounting systems effectiveness to insure that the companys financial
reports are free of error or misleading information. (Job-descriprtion, 2013)
According to the researches I have done in order to become an auditor, there are certain
qualifications and skills that are required such as: (National career service, 2014)

Ability to meet deadlines.

Excellent maths and IT skills.

Problem solving ability.

The ability to work a part of a team and individually.

Good organisational and time management skills.

Good spoken and written communication skills.

A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Honesty and integrity, for dealing with sensitive business information.

Any degree background, however, accounting degree is more suitable.

A number of years of experience.

Interview evidence:
The interview was scheduled with Mr. Mohammed Janahi, an auditor in KPMG at his
office on 31st of October. Mr. Janahi was delighted to make some time and meet me
to answer my questions which will help me to be more aware of the responsibilities
and skills required for the job.

Interview findings:
The interview took approximately 4 and a half minutes and I learned a lot of valuable
information. At the beginning, he pointed out two important responsibilities such
as, analysing the financial statements and controls, reporting back to the firm and
give recommendations if necessary.

Moreover, he said that working as an

accountant for at least two years would be helpful, and assist auditors with their
work would build a good background and experience of the job, moreover, it is
recommended to have an ACCA certificate, and must have taken the Audit and
Assurance exam throughout the training, after that pass an Audit Orientation course
and test.
However, Mr. Janahi was honest to share some challenges and risks that regularly
occur to an auditor, for example, if a well-known company asked the auditor to audit
their financial statements, the auditor have to be more careful and accurate because
his work will affect the Auditing Company. Furthermore, while auditing, some clients
do not co-operate which makes the job harder for the auditor, patience and good

communication skills will be necessary. In addition, working in an audit firm needs

more time and the working hours often exceed the average hours.
Lastly, he recommended me to focus more about the experience part more than
collecting other certificates, as nowadays, the majority of people have certificates,
but it will just be used as a key to get the job, then experience will help the auditor
grow, since auditing job 70% based on experience in the field.

Analysis of findings:
After researching and conducting the interview about the job, I have noticed some
difference between the research and the interview. The responsibilities and the
skills are similar with what Mr. Janahi mentioned that his job is to analyse and
analyse

the financial statements and control systems, good communication in

writing and speaking, also he pointed that two years of experience minimum.
In addition, I have found out that ACCA certificate is very important in order to apply
for this position. However, the differences that I have found is in the qualifications,
Mr. Janahi did not mention any management skills, problem solving skills, or the
ability to work with a group.
All these requirements above have set the standard high for all applicants, and
patience will be needed, since what I noticed from both primary and secondary
researches both require number of years of experience depending on the firm itself,
Mr. Janahi made it very clear that experience is very important to not just get the
job, but to develop. In addition, various skills needed, which sets the standards high
for the applicants. As a result, and due further researches, there is gap in the market
for this specific job.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, I have found out that the job requires many of responsibilities and
skills, which makes it more challenging for anyone who wants to seek it as a career.

Currently, I am studying accounting major at ACCA level; as a result, I am familiar

with the certificate material. Moreover, I have good speaking and writing skills, good
understanding in business, maths and have excellent IT skills.
On the other hand, I have lack of experience in this specific field, even though I
worked as a sales assistant, but it would be more reliable if I have worked as an
accountant or assist an auditor.
