Description of Artifact:
I developed a lesson plan for my kindergarten class that I taught in spring of 2005.
This artifact is a Science lesson that dealt with the food guide pyramid that was
successfully carried out during my student teaching at St. Marys school in
Platteville, WI.
Alignment:
The standard that was met was standard 7. Standard 7 is Instructional Planning.
The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of
subject matter, pupils, the community and curriculum goals. This experience
aligns with the standard because it displays the careful consideration and planning
that went into developing the lesson. This lesson plan was developed with goals,
assessments, and modifications if necessary. The lesson was designed to be
flexible and meet each individual students needs. The lesson plan was planned in
a way that anyone could read and implement if needed.
I used different manipulatives to discuss the food guide pyramid. I read a book
entitled: The Edible Pyramid. I also used bulletin board paper, markers, pencils,
crayons, scissors, paper plates, plastic forks and spoons, yard and construction
paper. As a teacher you need to organize and plan lessons that are based upon the
knowledge level of the class. It is necessary to prepare lessons that are both
educational and interesting to the students
I believe my experience aligns with this standard because I looked up the content
standards for the subject matter I planned to teach. Then I created a clear,
organized lesson to achieve those standards. The lesson was developmentally
appropriate for a kindergarten science curriculum.
