You support this mission every day through your work, for which | am grateful. Much has been accomplished over the past four years to strengthen the State's safety net for struggling individuals and a Benetton families, and it would not have been possible without your collective commitment to the mission and efforts to a Confit further it (Local 8 atiox Over the past several years, OTDA completed the implementation of a multiphase increase in the public im sur assistance basic grant, which had not been increased since 1990. Capital investment in the NYS Homeless Housing and Assistance Program (HHAP) more than doubled in the current year alone, which will support B_menose eee approximately 1,030 new units of supportive housing across the State. Two months ago, ODA successfully implemented the takeover of administration of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) State Supplementation Program for low-income elderly, blind and disabled individuals from the Federal Social Security Administration, By administering this program directly, the State is projected to save approximately $90 milion per year. The agency is doing important work in the area of human trafficking, to assist victims of some of the worst kinds of exploitation to get the services they need to heal and begin rebuilding their lives. OTDA’s commitment to families and children through the child support enforcement program remains strong. Last year, the program provided services to 945,000 families in New York State and collected over $1.8 billion in child support payments on behalf of custodial parents and their children, These are a few examples of the work done by the OTDA team, in partnership with the $8 local social services departments in New York State, to support the mission of enhancing the economic security of low-income working families, assisting individuals with entry into the workforce, and providing necessary benefits and services to the State's most vulnerable residents.
