MOTIVATION: What do you think it takes to be a teacher?

(Create List of attributes) Do you have any of these attributes?
If you do, have you ever considered being a teacher? If so, get
excited because this month we are all going to be teachers!

GOAL FOR LEARNER: The students will work collaboratively with their
families and the community to create a better environment by
distinguishing healthy versus unhealthy life choices.

II. PROCEDURE:

1: The teacher will start out by asking the students What do you think it
takes to be a teacher? (Create List of attributes) Do you have any of
these attributes? If you do, have you ever considered being a teacher?
2: The teacher will ask the students to cycle through the six centers
placed throughout the classroom.
Center 1: Students will log onto their iPads and visit kidshealth.org
to explore and learn about healthy lifestyles.
Center 2: Students will again log onto their iPads to visit
pikctochart.com and create a group picktochart of things their
families can do to create a healthier lifestyle.
Center 3: Students will log onto their iPads and visit youtube and
watch the ABCs of Safety.
Center 4: Students will log onto their iPads and visit bluekids.org
and play bully buster to learn about good and bad behaviors
related to health.
Center 5: Students will create their own flash cards advocating
health practices that they can take home to share with their families
and to advocate for in the community.
Center 6: Students will cut out pictures from magazines and create
a collage advocating healthy lifestyle choices.
3: The students will construct a pyramid that will advocate healthy
lifestyle choices with their community, where each individual child will
create his or her own part of the pyramid.
NEW INFORMATION: Students are going to expand their knowledge
about health by brainstorming a list of healthy lifestyle components that
we will use for this lesson.
CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING: To check for understanding, the
students will work through center two where a group of students will
create a group piktochart of things their families can do to create
healthier lifestyles in their homes.
MODELING: To model the teacher will use role-play in the classroom in
order to demonstrate what students should and should not do when it
comes to bullying. The teacher will have one of the students yell at her
and essentially be a bully and she will then react how the students

should in this situation. The teacher will calmly walk away and approach
one of the students she has set aside to be the teacher. The teacher will
then explain how acting like a bully to the bully is not the right approach.
GUIDED PRACTICE: For the guided practice students will visit the
website kidshealth.org to learn about healthy lifestyles.
CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING: The students will visit center six
where they will create a collage advertising healthy lifestyles using
pictures that they have cut out from the magazines given to them.
PRACTICE: For practice the students will visit center three and four
where they will learn about bullying. When the students visit
stopbullying.gov they will watch webisode five where they will watch a
video about bullying. When the students visit kidshealth.org (center four)
to play a bullying game where they will need to pop the bad or bullying
bubbles.
ASSESSMENT: The students will construct a pyramid that will advocate
healthy lifestyle choices with their community, where each individual
child will create his or her own part of the pyramid. Here is a YouTube
video explaining how to build a 3D pyramid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBoP6Bj1ji8
EXTENSION: As an extension the students will have an array of books
to choose from that advocate healthy lifestyles.
CLOSURE: Ask questions regarding healthy lifestyle choices and
bullying. Remind students that lifestyles choices they make now could
impact them throughout the rest of their lives. Have the learners reflect
on the changes they have made in their lives since they started learning
about healthy choices. To transition the teacher will visit GoNoodle and
have the students exercise and get some energy out with one of their
videos.
