1.) Friends in High Tech Places

This article discusses the friendships made in the internet age. It talks about the impact
technology is having on how teens make friendships. One topic focused on is the number of
close friends going up or down. I believe this article will benefit me greatly in my research to
find out if social media is affecting teens social skills. Because when someone makes friends
their social skills have to be used. This article is interesting and fun to read.

2.) Exploring Influential Social Cognitive Determinants of Social Media Use

This study explored relationships between social cognitive determinants and examined their
associations with social media usage. This was a very in-depth study with five different
hypotheses. This article focused on habits. So if someone had a bad habit of using their social
media did it correlate with how they acted in terms of their social cognitive ability?

3.) The Impact of Social Media on Children, Adolescents, and Families

This article focuses on the impact social media has on developing teens and younger children.
Social media (Twitter, Facebook, Myspace) is everywhere and kids are having more access to so
much knowledge they are learning things earlier than they probably should be. Such sites offer
today's youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in
recent year. It is important for parents to be aware of what their kids are being exposed to. I think
this article will help we gather good information for my research paper. When kids are exposed
to so many different things they and take in whatever they want. All that information can
possibly affect their social skills.

4.) Entangling Mobility and Interactions in Social Media

The author of this article states there is a lack of research done on coupling social interaction and
mobility. I noticed the article was much more scientific than the previous articles I have read.
Lots of graph and numbers to represent the data collected. I believe this article will help me
because it talks about the cognitive limitation social media can cause. Also the articles first
sentence states daily interactions naturally define social circles

5.) Social Media Affects Social Skills, Future Jobs
Younger generations have had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by social media. One
section of the article talks about if social media is affecting people and their social skills. Kids
are communicating through a screen and not face to face. I want to know if less interaction is
having an effect on teens social skills. This article ties in perfectly with my research topic and
will be helpful.

6. Social Cognitive Theory of Mass Communication.

The author talks about the importance of tracking the development of social media. Mentions
the impact social media has on society. Mass media is all over our society and the Social
cognitive theory holds that portions of an individual's knowledge acquisition can be directly
related to observing others within the context of social interactions, experiences, and outside
media influence
7.

Facebook and its Effects on Users' Empathic Social Skills and Life Satisfaction: A
Double-Edged Sword Effect.

There is always the debate going around trying to dictate if social media is hindering us or
helping us. This article uses a good metaphor to describe this problem social media is like a
double-edged sword. This study mostly focuses on how the usage of Facebook affects peoples
empathetic social skills. The author mentions the self preservation theory. This article perfectly
links with what I want to accomplish with my research. I want to know if the amount of social
media youre taking in is affecting your people skills.
8.

Is Social Media Destroying Teens Interpersonal Skills? Experts Say It May

My next article focuses on social media and the breakdown in causes in teens interpersonal
skills. In todays society most teens prefer to meet and get to know each other over media. Those
interpersonal skills my parents needed when growing up are no longer stressed at a young age. I
thought an interesting statistic was 85% of teenagers are on Facebook. I believe this article will
help connect the dots between social media use and teens social and interpersonal skills.
9.

Social Media and Interpersonal Communication

It is crazy when I go out to a restaurant how many teens I notice are on their phones and not
interacting with the people around them. The first quote this author says in her article is similar
to this statement. The There has been a shift in the way we communicate said Keller. We
would rather text than talk on the phone. Studies have shown that people are becoming more
social however the social aspect is not face to face, It is behind a screen. This article will expand

my understanding of why teen are choosing to meet other teens behind a screen rather than face
to face. Also this article has lots of information backed up by teachers with Phds.
10.

Is Social Media Sabotaging Real Communication?

Susan Tardanico is a contributor to this article. She talks about a story she heard about a young
girl who committed suicide. She made it seem like she was perfectly fine over text and email but
behind closed doors she was falling apart. It is scary how much of a lie you can make behind a
screen. The author stresses the importance of nonverbal cues. She states 93% of communication
is done nonverbally. Social media has the potential to make us less social This article will
help me discover how social media can make teens less social. It will also help me understand
the problems that come from being less social in todays society.
