The effect of Hitler's presence still lingers in todays society. In the beginning I was
trying to research whether Hitler was born insane or mentally ill, or was he taught and influenced
by his peers to become a powerful political dictator. Finding information about Hitlers mental
health was proving to be a challenge. After not being able to find much information that wasn't
based on opinion I chose to change the psychological and medical perspective to a more
historical base topic over Hitler and his life. After making the decision to go with the broader
topic I was able to find tons of information. I always like to start with Wikipedia. Even though
Wikipedia isnt recognized as a citable resource by many course instructors, it provides links to
legitimate references in the citations. On the Emporia State Library site there is a database
search and just an overall search of Adolf Hitler almost provided to many options to weed
through and with many all stating the same thing. After all my topic is of a major affect in not
only in the history of the United States but of World History. Some of the databases I searched
were Gale Virtual Reference Library and National Archives a government database. Besides
searching the key term Hitler I also used Holocaust and genocide. Both would surface
information on his later life as a dictator. Something more I wish I could have gotten out of this
research would be closer to home in a since, had I only known my mothers heritage a little
better and spoken Dutch. In my research I found most of it to be circled around Hitler and his

fellow Germans. Rarely did I come across inside stories of those who refuse to serve him that
were not Jewish or the claim to be as Hitler would call the lesser races.

As for citations style I chose APA because as a nursing major APA is what is the
recommended and required format. By using APA now I can get used to its format and get a
foot in the door for future courses. It would be easier to make the transition now rather than later
once habits have already formed.

Gathering Sources and Evaluating Their Information

Many instructors do not like students to use Wikipedia because they say it isnt verified
or a standard regulated source. However, with my topic it covers more than necessary and is
significant and provides citation and references to back the claims. With my topic being a
historical leader I dont have a need to have my sources continually updated with new
information, one reason you cant change history and what has already been done.

Giblin,J.(2002)The life and death of Adolf Hitler.New York:Clarion Books

In the book the Life and Death of Adolf Hitler It starts of describing how he would be

Gathering Sources and Evaluating Their Information

The book The Life and Death of Hitler even though written greater than five years ago
still covers semi-current events reflecting Hitlers rein. The author is well known for childrens
informational books and for the book The Life and Death of Hitler won the Robert F. Sibert
Informational Book Metal of 2003. James Giblin gives a reference and source section where he
credits his information to verify its accuracy. Its a reasonable source for anyone interested in
Adolf Hitler and his life.

Adolf Hitler: Man of the year, 1939, Time Magazine

In Time Magazines Adolf Hitler Man of the Year it discusses how he was a dominating
leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, blew away the Treaty of Versailles. It discuss how
Germany was defeated only 20 years before now had taken over Austria in an evil way
threatening war over Czechoslovakia. Adolf managed to claim control of Czechoslovakia using
it to its advantage, giving Hitler the title of The Man of the Year. Other known world figures
became shadows to Adolf and were lowered to using trickery to keep their jobs such as Premier
Daladier. Mussolini, a partnered with Hitler in a firm called Hitler & Mussolini Inc., was seen as
weak and a liar. It discuss how Hitler bullied over Europe and his ever rising number in
followers kept him at the top of being the greatest threatening force to bargain with. In the
article It goes on to explain all of Hitlers conquest of 1938 and compared them to others leaders
in the world during that year and his path to get there.
For my topic Time Magazines 1939 issue was current the subject Hitler and gave
relevance as to how society looked on his rein. In a way I feel many may take it as bias and

opinionatedly driven. This source wouldnt be accountable for being factual but still held
significance in my choice topic as an article of that time. Its main purpose is to politically
entertain the readers.

The world at war.volume8. New York: A&E Home Video

In volume 8 of The World at War it talks about Hilter's power and life coming to
an end. The video describes how Hitler's mental state was deteriorating quickly as he
became paranoid. He trusted no one, not even his own people. He is physical health also
faded as he was showing symptoms of Parkinson's. Hitler had a plan of how his final
moments would be. His wife, of only a matter of hours, and members of the inner circle
were given cyanide capsules. Later after learning his soldiers were loosing the battle he
and hi newly we wife had retreated to the study. Ava would be found dead with no
wounds but smelled like almonds from the cyanide and Hitler himself would die from a
gunshot wound to the head. He had given his followers orders, in which they followed,
by taking their bodies from the bunker and set both afire and never be found.

The video covered the topic of this time well, giving incite to Hitler's final hours.
It was put together by many authors and publishers. Although it was more of a
propaganda source the video also contained interviews by survivors that were around
during his reins end. I was unable to fine references but much was general knowledge
and could be backed by history books. The audience intended would be the general
public interested in the history of WWII and Adolf Hitler.

Kaplan,R (2002). Doctor to the dictator: the career of Theodor Morell personal physician to
Adolf Hitler. Australasion Psychiatry,10,4,389-392

This journal talks about Adolf Hitler's Doctor of nine years and how he had special
access to the fuhrer. It discuss Hitler's mental and physical health issues. He lacked real
relationships with anyone besides his dog and cousin. He obsessed over racial issues, his health
and cruelty to animal. He was so against hurting animals he consumed only a vegetarian diet
and never drank or even allowed smoking near him. In the journal Kaplan discusses how he
distrust he had for doctors and specialist and would choose what he wanted to believe and treat.
He also discusses how Hitler was melodramatic and would threaten to kill himself often. It gives
incite on Theodor Morell, Hitler's doctor, and describes how we was anti-sematic and cared for

all including the Jews. He claimed the privilege to care f Hitler after curing eczema and bowl
issues gaining the trust of the dictator. During his time as dictators doctor he treated him for
numerous illnesses and also injected him routinely with amphetamine. Later Morell would be
blamed for Hitler's addiction and outburst. Later Morell would loose the trust of Hitler and
would go on the run to be caught and interrogated by Allies.
I found this source to be helpful with the questionable heath of Hitler . The author is a
forensic psychiatrist and medical writer, so he would have legitimate knowledge of the
information. He also provides resources to back his claims if a reader is doubtful. The audience
targeted in the journal would be those in the medical and psychological fields.
