INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
The plan should guide the LEAs use of education technology for the next three
years.

(7/1/14 to 6/30/17). This is an imaginary school (TEXAS ISD) where I am the

Superintendent.
The Texas ISD Technology Plan was developed over the course of several months by
many District stakeholders using multiple resources.
Instead of being a static plan for purchasing equipment, running wires, and training
people on the latest software, the plan will serve as a dynamic blueprint for providing
students and teachers with tools to gain the knowledge and skills required for teaching,
learning, and working in the twenty-first century.
Roy Smith (Chief Information Officer), Joyce Meyer (Educational Technology Director),
Arthur Tony (Technical Services Director), Johnny Fort (Enterprise Applications,
Support and Reporting Director), Mark Putin (Applications Development and
Management Director), Allergra McSmith ( Interim Career and Technology Education
Director), Tanya Sony ( Local Services Manager), Darren Mayor (Remote Services
Manager), Dr. Sammy White (Educational Technology Coordinator), Lei Hei
(Educational Technology Coordinator), Katy Dames (Library Media Services
Coordinator).
The Texas ISD Technology Plan outlines the goals, objectives, and strategies that are
necessary to support the Districts goal of improving instruction for all students by
creating engaging activities, programs, tasks, assignments, and opportunities that result in
high levels of student achievement. This plan is based on the five key areas of the Texas
Plan for Technology and is aligned with No Child Left Behind and E-Rate criteria. The
four goals are:
1. Improving academic achievement, including technology literacy, of all students

through the integration of technology into curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

2. Increasing the capacity of educators to integrate technology effectively into
curriculum, instruction, and assessment through ongoing, sustained, high quality
professional development.
3. Increasing the level of instructional, technical, and administrative support of the
integration of technology into curriculum, instruction, and assessment through planning,
budgeting, and funding.
4. Increasing the level of student and teacher support and access to commonly used,
specialized, new and emerging technologies, including but not limited to computers, the
Internet, and network resources.
The TEXAS ISD Technology Department continually provides training in the integration
of K-9 Technology Applications TEKS into grade level core curriculum, training for the
integration of technology into all curricula areas 10-12, training for applications used in
the classroom and training in the area of information literacy. The Campus Technology
Plans are based on annual needs assessment performed at each campuses and customized
to provide teachers with professional growth opportunities using a variety of delivery
models.
CURRICULUM COMPONENT CRITERIA.

The objectives and strategies to support the goals of the Texas ISD Technology Plan are
based on assessment data from Technology Excellence Indicator System Surveys,
Campus School
Technology and Readiness Charts, and feedback from the Technology Services Steering

Assessment Process: Assessment was conducted by reviewing existing documents. The

primary focus was the use of the STaR Chart district summary data. Each chart indicator
was assessed for current district level and strategies developed to move the district
toward the Target Tech level in each area. We also reviewed documents of past
studies/reports such as the network audit. Reviewed documents came from both external
and internal studies/sources.
