My school is Magnolia Science Academy and Id like to rate my schools in terms of how
effective it is as 5.
As you know an effective school must be a place where students and teachers can feel safe,
physically and emotionally. Thats exactly why I gave 5 to my school. It is safe, focuses on
preventing misbehavior by implementing school-wide positive behavior interventions. These
interventions stress social skills and emotional learning, to teach students conflict resolution and
cultural understanding.
Teachers, parents, and other mentors treat school as sacred places. How society values school
as a whole culture has everything to do with how students will engage with their own education.
When students regard school as an institution with higher respect, they will enter the school with
attitudes more conducive to learning.
Effective schools expect students to succeed. Because of that, students at my school learn more.
Teachers give praise, remedial instruction, and opportunity for classroom participation to the
students who are perceived as more capable. Students in turn found the lessons more interesting
and approachable. Kids are free to reach their potential academically.
Our effective teachers make a conscious effort to give equal opportunity for all students to
respond during class, provide thoughtful feedback to every student, and are willing to re-teach
concepts that students have not mastered.
My principal is not just an authority figure, but also a coach and a partner. He doesnt
operate in a top-down authority structure, but knows that the best solutions come from a
collaborative effort. He inspires and creates an enriching community in the school. He is visible.
He is accessible not only to teachers but also to the students. Hes walking the halls even
cheering at games, and supporting extra-curricular events. He assesses data about school
effectiveness and implement strategies to address areas that need improvement.
Students are comfortable around him because of his warm personality, these arent the
only reasons he is a great leader. His (Mr. Acar ) greatest strength is his vision for the school.
Graduates of Magnolia Public Schools are scientific thinkers who contribute to the global
community as socially responsible and educated member of society
He upholds the vision for the school and clearly articulates it to so teachers, administration, and
parents can be united in striving for higher achievement.
His effective mission emphasizes innovation and improvement in providing learning for all
students and educators of all backgrounds. He is persistent and energetic in sharing his vision
with faculty, students, and parents to unite their goals.
Each year he tells the faculty to increase our expectations of students. You ask for more and you
get more. My school is operating as one effective organism instead of a loose network of
individuals with their own agendas. This is the best characteristics of my school exhibits.

As a school policy students are tested regularly. We believe that students who arent regularly
tested on their academic progress are more successful than those who arent.

Keeping the mission at the forefront, teachers create the syllabus that allows for not just all
material to be covered, but also for it to be mastered, within the time constraints of the class. The
syllabus is flexible enough to allow re-teaching when the students are having trouble with certain
key concepts.
Our school has close relationship with parents. We rely on our parents to get their
children to school on time and regularly. Theyre assured that their children are entering a safe
and caring place.
Teachers and parents work together to help kids get the most out of their assignments.
Parents devote time to tutor their children, and teachers provide clear directions for how parents
can help in a productive way.
Our school goes beyond purely academic matters when it comes to bridging home and
school. In the most effective relationship between home and school, parents and other
community agencies work together to address problems that are not uniquely school-based. Drug
use, bullying, and gang activity are all serious problems where the school can contribute to the
solution, but the school cant solve them alone. In an ideal situation, the community as a whole
works as a team to tackle these issues and creates a better environment for learning, and a better
society.
If I could redesign my school I would ask LAUSD to give us more rooms. We need more
rooms in order to offer more courses.
