~Masters of Education/Elementary Education Certification December 2014 ~
Thesis: "Teachers Perception of the Impact of Teaching reading to African American Male Students"

Education holds the key to success. I believe each child is capable of learning, and it is my goal as an educator
to guide, direct, encourage as well as build relationships with students as they reach for success as life-long
learners. I have been a life-long learner, first receiving a degree in communications and now earning a Masters
of Education/Elementary Education degree December 2014. It is using the knowledge that I have acquired
throughout my lifetime that I plan on using to develop lessons and relationships, students, parents, faculty and
staff, that will build the self-esteem within students as they become successful achievers in all areas.
My experience is so varied, that I believe I am an asset to your system in meeting your district goals of student
success. As a communications major, I have developed the skills necessary to communicate effectively with the
general public while maintaining outstanding organizational skills. After working in television for six years I
realize that my true desire was to assist young people in their journey for success. Therefore, I ventured back to
the university setting and set my goal upon obtaining a Masters degree in education.
As an international program participant I have had the opportunity to teach conversational English classes to
college students at Dankook University in South Korea over a 7 week period. I taught conversational English
and developed interactive lesson plans. During my stay in South Korea, I also learned about and experienced the
Korean culture.
As a non-traditional college student, I have had to juggle work, studying and family. Yet, I have maintained a
3.74 GPA. I have a strong commitment of furthering my education and I am striving to become an outstanding
educator. I have accumulated a number of volunteer hours through the following: Michigan Reading
Association Conference at the De Vos Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Education Equity at Oakland
University, Kappa Delta Pi, and Alpha Iota Chapter. In addition, I was selected to be on the Dean's Advisory
Council and was involved in my community. I was a mentor to two college students.
I thrive in environments that are challenging where I can adapt my skills to enhance the learning environment
for all students. I am a collaborator who shares concepts, ideas and strategies with colleagues throughout the
district. Creating opportunities for student successfully achieving their goals is what education is all about.
It is my hope that after you review my resume and credentials, that you will award me the opportunity to share

my ideas with you. I look forward to discussing with you how I might contribute to your district.

Irene Wilson
