SCANDELOUS TREATMENT OF
INDUSTRIAL WORKERS
FACTORY WORKERS TREATED AS
SLAVES
INDUSTRIALIZATION
How is industrialization affecting workers and what is it?
The working conditions in the United states are
I have interviewed
horrendous! There is nobody in authority to
many
factory
regulate the rigorous demands factory owners
workers and they
are imposing on their workers. Most workers
all say the same
work 6 to 7 days a week, 15 hours a day. All the
thing; they feel
long hours and hard work is hardly rewarded
that the factory
and can lead to chronic fatigue which can make

them less alert and more subject to getting hurt

of
from the machines they operate. The worst part
them. They feel
is, even if a worker became hurt and was unable
that because they
to work, they did not receive any compensation,
are working so
nor do the factory owners pay them for time off
hard, they should
work. Not only are our people being treated

unfairly, but they are also being put in danger according to the work they do. But factory
and are forced to work in a place where they are workers refuse. Due to the fact that the workers
want a fair amount of share in their profits,
they are creating labor unions. No matter
how hard the factory workers pushed their

not cared about or respected.

There
are
many
problems
with
Industrialization! It has had a giant effect on
our environment. Most environmental changes
have taken place in towns because they have
boomed with population growth. These changes
have caused overcrowding which has caused
serve problems. People are very unclean and
throw their waste out windows to be washed
down the gutters in the streets, factory owners
and workers are being forced to live together,
air pollution from burning coal is getting much
worse which is causing the people to breath in
coal smoke instead of air, and the water we are
drinking is now coming from wells and rivers
that are contaminated by sewage. Also! I think
we are all tired of the noise caused by the
railroads that are invading the town. All of this
put together is bringing a great risk of disease
to our families and us, as individuals.
Industrialization is also not fair what so ever!
Our people are being treated as slaves. It
requires work from many people and people
are willing to accept it no matter how unethical
it may seem, just to stay alive and provide for
their families.

Anthracite coal, what is it you say? Well it is an

important source of fuel in the U.S. at this time. It
fueles factory heaters and steam-powered boats and
machinery. But the consumption of immense
quantities of coal and other fossil fuels has long
lasting consequences for the environment.
Sanitation is a major public health concern in cities
who are in need of sewage systems and clean
drinking water. Untreated sewage is not properly
disposed of and frequently contaminates the local
water supply. Which then leads us to diseases like
cholera. This is a very infectious disease that is
caused by the Vibrio cholera bacteria through
digestion of contaminated water or food. The
Industrial crisis going on today has brought
enormous advances in production, but with
unfortunate environmental costs. It has caused
environmental pollution in the United States
increased with the arrival of new sources of fuel,
abundant
factories,
and
urban
centers.
Policymakers and the public had little awareness of
the extent of industry's impact on the environment.
But some effects were self-evident to attentive
observers and the rise of industrialization and
urbanization did inspire a new gratitude for the
natural world. The environmental effects of
industrialization have been especially concentrated
in
cities.

As American cities are getting more and

more industrialized, infectious diseases are
emerging as a real threat. The introduction
of new immigrants and the growth of large
urban areas allow previously contained
diseases to spread quickly and infect larger
populations. Towns are growing into cities
as industrialization sparks urban migration
from rural communities in the United
States. The increased demand for cheap
housing by urban migrants are leading to
poorly built homes that incapable to
provide for personal hygiene. Immigrant
workers are often living in cramped
tenement housing that regularly lacks basic
facilities such as running water, ventilation,
and toilets. These conditions are ideal for
the spread of bacteria and infectious
diseases. Without planned sanitation
systems, bacteria are easily passed from
person to person through the water and
sewage. America is growing rapidly, and a
large portion of this extraordinary growth
can be thanks to European immigrants.
Also during this time many Britons,
Germans, and those of Scandinavian
background crossed the Atlantic and
landed in America. Billions of people are
coming here with almost nothing, no jobs,
no home, and no money. They have the
hope to find a great new life in America but
where can they all fit? Tenements are
poorly built and often have no clean water
or sewage system.

We all know that working conditions are

horrible for the average citizen. Sometimes
even to the breaking point of terrifying. They
are unsafe, they are paid very little, and they are
worked almost to death, and can be fired for
the littlest things. If you get hurt or break a
bone you are out of a job. Families are living in
the lowest standard of life and cant do
anything about it because even though they
work morning to night they are getting little to
no pay. People living in tenements with three
other families, and having to send their kids to
sleep on the roof because there is no room for
them to even sleep on the floor. It is awful
working circumstances and needs to be
stopped. That is where the wonderful labor
unions come in. See when one person
complains about how the work environment is,
then he or she would be fired. This is where
more than one person stops their work and
says that they wont work in these ghastly
situations anymore. Labor unions can make a
difference, if you want help with your current
conditions then asked for it they can help
everyone!

More and more people are starting to recognize

the need for a system for implementing
authority, or a government. They have lived
under absolute rulers, such as kings, who have
had total power. The idea that people can
govern themselves that is the idea of
democracy.
Many
people
have
put
contributions into these ideals throughout the
centuries. Recently though republicans,
democrats and exploitation of the politics have
caused policymakers to not see the main
concern with our nations economic issues.
Having these economic problems cause many
things to get preposterously out of hand.
Democrats are having an edge on the votes,
which then gives a boost for them in the House
of Representatives, and farmers protesting the
great tariffs. Organizations were formed to help
with these difficulties. These organizations
were the farmers alliance, this group hoped to
establish companies so they could make them
have higher prices on their goods, and to also
make loans to the farmers that needed it. Even
