Support Services People who work in this group of occupations


focus on making the setting for various health care services as
comfortable and pleasant as possible. They provide services that
make patients comfortable. They also design and furnish waiting
areas and hospital rooms in ways that create a pleasant environment.
Diagnostics Services People who work in this group of occupations
perform a wide variety of medical tests as ordered by medical
doctors. The purpose of these tests is to gather information to help
doctors make an accurate diagnosis of a medical problem.
Information Support and Services Many who work in this group of
occupations collect, enter, and analyze data by computer. Some
organize computer databases. Others write computer programs. Still
others design the logic of computer systems and oversee their
operation.
Therapeutic Services People who work in this group of occupations
deal directly with patients to provide whatever kind of medical care
or treatment they need. Many kinds of technicians, nurses, and
medical assistants who work under the direction of medical doctors
are included.
Environmental Service Systems People who work in this group of
occupations figure out ways to protect our environment. They do that
by developing ways to control air pollution and to recycle waste
materials.

Professional Support Services People who work in this group of


occupations provide a variety of special services in school settings.
These individuals help students with personal, physical, and
educational problems. Examples of these occupations are school
counselors, social workers, psychologists, and speech pathologists.
Plant Systems People who work in this group of occupations study
plants and how they grow. They help farmers to take care of natural
resources and protect the environment. They also figure out ways to
increase the food value of crops and how to make them less subject to
pests and lack of rain.
Natural Resources Systems People who work in this group of
occupations do a variety of things to protect the environment. These
may include making and enforcing plans to protect our forests and
national parks. Their work may also include protecting places for
wild animals to live.
Animal Systems People who work in this group of occupations figure
out better ways to produce meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products.
They study farm animals. Some inspect and determine the quality of
animals and food. Others buy and market farm animals.
Emergency and Fire Management Services People who work in
this group protect the public by helping when there are emergencies.
Some rescue people who are trapped in a fire, car accident, or natural
disaster such as a tornado or flood. Others drive and provide
emergency medical care to patients in ambulances or at home before

they arrive at a hospital. Still others oversee and manage rescue


operations.
