Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing in reference to the Computer Science Internship Program available at the NSA
Headquarters in Fort Meade, MA. As an applied and computational mathematics major, I will be
placing my emphasis in computer science, and am looking for opportunities to gain experience in
working with new software systems to help contribute to our national security. I learned about
internship positions available at the NSA during a presentation in my Careers in Mathematics
seminar by Rachel Todd, who is a current employee specializing in work regarding cryptanalysis.
As an applied mathematics major, I am very interested in learning how things can be modeled
through math. I have learned that math is a tool to help solve problems that exist in our world. I
am currently in second year calculus and am planning on taking Linear Algebra and Fundamentals
of Mathematics next semester. By expanding my math knowledge, I have developed good
problem solving skills, and look to continue that in this internship. By placing my emphasis in
computer science, I hope to combine my knowledge of math and programming to contribute what
I have where needed. I am specifically interested in the CSIP because I am very interested in
software development. I have learned how to code in C++, and am looking to learn more
languages as I work on my talents as a programmer. During my time in math and computer
science classes, I have developed the critical problem-solving and analytical skills necessary for
the intern position that you are looking to fill.
If you have further questions, or would like to schedule an interview with me, please contact me
at (XXX) XXX XXXX or email me at XXXXXXXXX@XXXXX. This contact information
is also contained in the attached resume. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Eric Todd
