wisdom & understanding. A wise man builds on
a solid foundation (Matt. 7:24-25)
2. Educators must be prepared to answer
fundamental, foundational questions about lifes
purpose, origin, and mans destiny.
3. We stay prepared & fresh by seeking God for
wisdom (fresh manna - Exodus 16:20)

Objective 1 :

to articulate why understanding origins is vital
and will have reviewed some for the Final Exam

a. Maintain your humility and rest in the fact that our
time/space understanding has huge limitations
b. Hold to what the scripture explicitly says. If we
compromise on this - what else will we bend on, in time?
c. We are to lift up Christ and HE will draw all men unto
Himself. John 12:32

In addition to the effective execution of administrative tasks [handing in
assignments, distributing materials, storing materials after an activity, getting
organized into groups], pacing involves transitions from one activity to another
...One might think of a lesson involving segments. Typically, every lesson will
involve administrative segments Every lesson will also involve segments
devoted to content knowledge. (Marzano, 2007)

Rules of thumb:
Instructional activities are usually most productive when one builds
upon the previous task / segment. Teaching is, in this way, akin to
building a house, one brick at a time...
Disjointed segments can still be profitable, but it is advisable that
your lessons have a natural flow from one activity to the next
incorporating natural connections between one idea and a
complementary idea to follow.
Proper pacing does not wait for teachable moments, it enables
them

Lesson planning is, perhaps, the most challenging aspect of teaching. Yet, it is in this
quotidian practice that teachers establish the order, procedures, and proper management
of the flow of information that will bring rest to their classrooms.

How would you begin to talk about a historical issue, such as womens suffrage

Lesson plans should always include these elements:


Content area, topic, grade level
Objective: Should include a condition, some sort of
demonstration, scoring guide
Applicable State Standards: Numbered, specific content
standards keep you accountable
Character element or Bible integration: Dependent on the
venue but character lessons should be an underpinning
of your instruction
Textual and multimedia elements: Where is your
information coming from?

Lesson plans should always include these elements:


Materials to distribute: What documents will you use?
Will you make your own? How will you assess them?
Will you use others? Are they approved?
Prior Learning Assessment: Formative assessment - what
do they know? KWL: Know / Want to Know / Learned
Pacing / Time allocations: Time-on-Task (ToT) for each
activity; Plan for transition times too!
Connections: cross-linkages
How can a lesson connect with other content areas, for
instance: How can a science lesson also relate to what
students are doing in English class?

Teaching is essentially a relationship-based profession


a. Classroom management reflects the heart of the teacher
toward the students
b.

Personality must not trump institutional policies, established


school / church procedures, or simple good judgement.

c.

Discipline is to be evenly and fairly applied, as outlined by the


table of authority - not personal preference.

d.

Godly wisdom guards our relationships (see II Timothy 2:25)

e.

Grace, mercy, and a heart of restoration is the basis for all


discipline in a classroom management scenario

Assessments may best be planned using backwards design


(Wiggins, McTighe, 2003) - Know the goal and teach to the goal.
Formative assessments: Using active, in-class techniques such
as verbal questioning, interactive groups, dynamic performances,
etc. to check for understanding during instruction
Summative assessments: Using some sort of graded
performance or written assessment to gauge student skill
acquisition for the purpose of evaluating based on a rigorous
standard
* Note: The term backwards design has been introduced into common educator
vocabulary by two prominent researchers, Grant Wiggins & Jay McTighe.

God made man in His image. It is in our design to communicate,


teach, tell, talk, connect, meet, engage, and above all - LOVE
other people.

Parents are the primary educators for children.

God set people in families. Families are the context in which


children first learn about the world. Families need constant
encouragement and investment - in the Body of Christ - the
Church.

Discipleship is based on genuine love, care, concern - and is a


work of the Holy Spirit as He places people together to grow,
learn, and receive Grace.
