1) Billitteri, Thomas J. "Drone Warfare." CQ Researcher 6 Aug. 2010: 653-76. Web. 23 Oct.
2014.
This article talks about drone warfare as a whole. It talks about how the first ever drone
was built and how it flew. The drones were just used to transport bombs and never returned. It
was a lot different time back then because now we can send a drone to drop a bomb and it will
return to the airbase without a scratch on it. The drone warfare is on its way up in war
strategies because it is a cheap and fast way to receive valuable information on an enemy.
These drones are keeping our military men and women safe and out of harms way. Unmanned
planes are the most effective ways to deal with terrorism and keep it from spreading.
I have learned a lot from this article and it gave my research better statistics to look at.
It shows a Bar graph of how many strikes have been carried out each year in relation to how
many people have died. It also talks about pros and cons about these drones.
2) Byman, Daniel Why Drones Work." Foreign Affairs. 9 Oct. 2014. Web. 9 Oct. 2014.

This Article is very informative about drones and their use. It even states how foreign
countries are starting to back drones and agree with their methods. Other countries are in the
process of having the same war advantages as the United States. We are just further ahead of
them because we already have the use of Drones which helps in our advantage. Even some
terrorist groups are starting to create their own form of drone technology and will be using it
soon. Drones are just highly capable weapons that are easy to produce. Unites States officials
are saying drone strikes have not killed any civilians since 2011.
This Article helped me a lot in my research by providing details on other countries and
their use in drones and how easily it is to create and use a drone for warfare. It helped me look
at how dangerous this can become in the future and how our military needs to take precautions
and take out all terrorism groups before they receive the upper hand and have the same
capabilities we do.
3) Giraldi, Philip. "Deep background." The American Conservative 13.2 (2014): 35. Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2014.
This article gives a description about drone bases and where ours are located. We have
just recently pulled drone bases out of Kyrgyzstan and are leaving the shamsi air base in
Pakistan. We currently have six military done Air Bases inside Afghanistan that only deploy
surveillance drones and one CIA operated Drone Air Base that has the lethal Drones. These
drone bases were set up to catch Al- Qaeda terrorists in this region and stop them from forming
more terrorist groups.

This Article helped me by showing where the Air Bases were and how close they
needed to be to send and receive signals to and from the drones. Also it showed how many
bases are still left overseas.
4) Mothana, Ibrahim. "Drones Promote Terrorism." Drones. Ed. Louise Gerdes. Detroit:
Greenhaven Press, 2014. At Issue. Rpt. from "How Drones Help Al Qaeda." New York
Times 13 June 2012. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 23 Oct. 2014.
In this article it talks about how drones are pushing innocent people into a life of
terrorism. When we send a drone strikes and kill innocent civilians their families get mad and
want to get revenge on the people that took their family members life. Drone strikes are
causing many countries to dislike America. When these people want revenge they find a
militant group to join so they can seek their revenge. These strikes have made it easier for
terrorist groups to recruit new members and find people that are out to do as much damage as
possible.
This article has helped a lot because it has altered my though a little because I always
thought the strikes were necessary to ensure America a win in the war, however they are
creating more violence and making more enemies for America to deal with in the future. I am
starting to see the negative sides in drone warfare however it is still a liable asset for America to
have and will continue to help us out in the upcoming centuries.
5) Iannotta, Ben. "How Drones Are Used to Fight Terrorism Requires Public Debate."
Drones. Ed.

This article helped me realize the government should not have all the power in
determining a drone strike. The people should have a right to know when the strike is taking
place and for what reason. The government needs to be looked over like every other citizen in
the United States, to make sure they are not using drones for the wrong reasons.
The Article starts by a brief debate over the topic of drones and their use in warfare.
Some people believe we should stop sending drone attacks and we should return to a pre-9/11
state. Charles Krauthamme stated you cannot interrogate a dead man and there is no way to
get any information out of what is destroyed. The next part of the article helps people better
understand why drone attacks are put into place. They believe the national security is
strengthened when the public has more information on these types of decisions. And we need
to know that these strikes are helping our country as a whole and not hurting us.
6) "Introduction to Drones: At Issue." Drones. Ed. Louise Gerdes. Detroit: Greenhaven
Press, 2014. At Issue. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 16 Oct. 2014
The article introduces how and why drones were first used in war to keep pilots safe and
out of harms way. The author provides background info on different types of drones and what
use they have for the military. It gives different opinions on drone use in warfare by providing
statements from people that disagree with this method of war and people that agree. The
people that disagree say these drone strikes are killing innocent civilians that are close to the
area and are causing tensions to increase anti-American terrorism. On the other hand, the
supporters are all for drone strikes and believe this is the new age of warfare and if we did not
start now we would be behind everyone else.

This article is useful because the author is an expert on drones also he did research to
find out how the country felt about the use of drones in warfare. He gave a variety of
background on the drones and explained the purpose of each drone. This article helps with my
research because it gives me and idea of the wide ranges of drone use and an outlook on
different opinions on the topic.
7) "Obama & drones." Commonweal 139.22 (2012): 5. Opposing Viewpoints in Context.
Web. 16 Oct. 2014.
In this article it talks about how President Obama took control over approving the drone
attacks and did not want to give this authority to the CIA or Defense Department. There have
been close to 400 drone attacks killing close to 2500 people in the past four years. These
attacks happened mostly outside of warzones and as a result a set of rules were put into place
and the justice department, congress and the people have a right to know when a drone strike
is taking place.
This article helped with my research by providing an outline of how the drone attacks
were put into order and by who. It also gave background on how the president went about
executing these attacks.
8) "Robotic Military Weapons: Three U.S. Military Drones." MCT Photos. 2011. Opposing
Viewpoints in Context. Web. 23 Oct. 2014.
This is an image of three different types of drones that are used by the military today.

The first drone, the X-47B, is a surveillance and carrier-launched fighter which is used to carry
up to 4500 pounds of weapons and sensors. The long skinny drone in the middle, Global
Observer, is just used for surveillance and communication. These drones can fly five to seven
days and can see and area of up to 280,000 square miles. Last but not least, the Phantom Ray, a
surveillance, ground strike and electronic attack drone can fly up to 600 miles per hour and can
carry up to 4,000 pounds of weapons and sensors.
This article is very helpful in my research because it shows what the drones look like and
gives a brief description of what each drone has the capabilities to do. Also shows the different
types of drones that are used and in the methods in which we use these drones.
