Progressing through Time
As I graduated high school, I kept telling myself that Im about to start a new chapter in
my life that it is going to be very difficult. When the time came for the first day of school for
college I was getting a feeling that I was going to start struggling through the semester. As time
was passing by I was noticing college wasnt going as hard as I thought so. I was getting
homework but not as much as people were saying to me. Everything seemed very similar to high
school as of what I experienced starting college.
When it came to my classes I would always struggle with English because I wouldnt
really take my time to write, I would just procrastinate and write what first came up in my head.
At first I always thought I would survived the semester with just procrastinating and just pass the
class. I was like this for mostly all my main courses such as English and Math. During English I
started off procrastinating on my assignments, they will be assigned to me a week before but of
course I decided to wait for the last hour before the deadline. When my papers would get graded
I get a passing grade by having the bare minimum.
Throughout the semester, I was improving on my writing skills. I started with writing
what my thoughts were on that day to actually revising my writing, flowing my paragraphs,
organizing them, formatting the correct way and writing more in details. I would always push
myself to get a better grade from what I would get in my previous assignments. Going through

English this way really help me improve on my writing skills and even stopping with
procrastination. As the time was passing through I notice I was improving with my writing and I
wasnt struggling with my papers no more. Revising my papers, actually reading word by word
help me improve on my writing. Before I would never revise and just turn in one copy which be
my final draft and never spent time doing a rough draft before turning in the assignment.
Having to do exercises before writing my essay was a great way to make my final draft
easier. These exercises would help me be prepared to write when the time came. While writing
the paper I combined all the ideas I already had and made it into one essay. After the exercises
were done we began to write our rough draft and then we will have peer reviews with our peers
in class. Having these peer reviews sessions during class were helpful because I got help from
students who were on the same writing level as me and they would give out there thoughts about
my essay, so when it came for my final draft I will use their thoughts and corrections for my final
draft. Small assignments may seem like nothing for your paper but at the end of it, it help me on
my writing skills. With my skills improved I started to do the similar steps for my other classes
such as World Geography and Sociology. For those classes I had to write a paper on the topic I
was learning and I used my writing skills for English for these assignments, which were really
helpful for my grade in those classes.
As a writer I learned that there will never be such a perfect paper. Each time writing a
paper and reading it after its completed, there will always be an error. Revising a paper will
have no limits to it as I noticed with the peer reviews in class. Everyone will have their own
writing skills but each paper they write there will be a different grammar error people will notice.
When writing a paper from now on I would start off with a rough draft and let at least 3 people
revise it including myself as well. As of now I am starting to take my time to write now unlike

before I would procrastinate, which made me rush to turn it in on time. Skills I would use for all
types of writing I have to do from now on. Each time I am writing, I am progressing as time goes
by.
