Reflection Essay
I expected this class to have a center theme, which we would have papers
about the theme. When I started the class I knew I was going to a lot of essay
writing. I personally do not like writing because Im not good at it. I dislike writing
because I have trouble beginning my essay and ending it. I can come up with a thesis
and have paragraphs with evidence supporting it however my essay structure does
need improving. Throughout the class I learned how to begin and end all of my
essays, I also learned good essay organizing and structure.
In this course I learned what ethos, pathos, and logos mean. I also learned
mostly about gender construction and how society constructs us to follow certain
gender roles and gender expectation. I learned how to properly cite scholarly
resources and how to put an essay in MLA format. As a writer I am good at
providing the evidence to support my thesis. I will apply these skills in the future
when I continue college and start my career. I will mostly apply my essay skills from
this course to future classes because my writing skills still need improving and the
only way I can improve is to practice.
In the class I hardly faced any challenges, most of it was trying to manage my
time for this class and my other classes however I would say my greatest challenge
was starting the essays and doing presentations in front of the class. I am very shy

and have a hard time presenting in front of the class. I overcame these challenges
just like any other college student would; I just got it over with. I went up to present
without thinking about anything and started my presentation.
Throughout the time I was in this class I felt that my skills in writing have
improved greatly. I now know how to write an argumentative essay and cite my
evidence properly. I learned how to properly cite quotes in my essays and how to
introduce them to support my thesis. I will still continue to work on my essay skills
because I still can improve and write better.
If I had anything advice for a new student on how to succeed in their writing
class I would say just practice writing as much as possible. Itll feel exhausting and
tiring after writing like 4 copies of the same paper, however, itll help you find what
your weakness and strengths are so you can only focus on your weaknesses. Itll also
help you with your writing as a whole. The only advice there is to say is just to
practice because you have to continue practicing to find what your mistakes and
weaknesses are to fix them. I would also recommend them to stick with the essay
prompt because going off topic can greatly affect the final score of the essay.
Overall this class was really fun, I enjoyed having the professor and being
part of her class. I learned a lot in this class and will use the skills and knowledge I
learned in the future as I continue college. I learned a lot of femininity and how
society constructs us to be a man and women by placing certain gender roles and
expectations for us to follow. At first I thought it was a normal thing where as you
grow up youll be treated differently, however I learned its just a social construct.
I am happy to take the things I learned from this class with me in the future.
