Midterm Reflection:
Upon graduating high school, I knew the next chapter in my life would be college. I was
aware that I would be required to take English courses in college and this distraught me. All
throughout my high school education English class has always been the most difficult more me.
From writing research papers, to daily grammar practice, I have always strongly disliked English
class and found it to be the most problematic for me. Beginning this semester I was concerned
about this UWRT-1103 class and how well my performance would be. My goals, plans,
expectations, etc. were as follows:

This semester in UWRT-1103 has really progressed rapidly for me. It seems as though
just yesterday we were entering the classroom for the first time. So far in this class I have
learned a great deal about literacy and what all it entails. My appreciation for literacy has
expanded greatly due to this course and I now understand how essential it is in todays
world.

The first half of this course has been very beneficial to my understanding of reading and
writing and I hope to continue to expand upon this in the second half. I would also like to
improve my writing skills during the second half of the course.

I am making connections with my fellow students in this class and learning how to work
together efficiently in our small group discussions. This class, as well as all my other
college classes, has really opened my eyes to the college experience and how different it
is from high school.

Typically my writing process begins with brainstorming ideas before I ever begin
writing. However, I usually struggle with finding an appropriate introduction to catch the
readers attention. Throughout this semester my writing process has changed slightly, as I

have bettered my understanding of literacy and how to begin brainstorming ideas for
writing prompts. I now begin my writing process with a bubble map full of ideas and
choose my favorite three from this map to include in my paper. I believe this class has
bettered my writing skills and I look forward to continuing this growth throughout the
remainder of the year.

I am mostly satisfied with my performance in this class and have met mostly all of my
general semester goals. My main semester goal for this class is to make an A if at all
possible, but certainly nothing less than a B. I believe that I am currently on track to meet
this goal and am very pleased about that.

I am proud of my collaboration with my small discussion group members and how well
we work together. I am also very pleased with our classroom participation as a whole. I
find our classroom discussions very helpful and look forward to those daily.

My favorite writing assignment thus far is the literacy narrative, as it gave me a chance to
reflect upon my childhood and how I became literate. However, I would also have to say
that my least favorite assignments would be our pre-class readings because they are very
vague at times and do not catch my attention, therefore making it hard to concentrate. If I
was appointed King for the day I would provide more in-class time to work on
assignments/projects and allot more time for the pre-class readings. However, overall I
am very pleased with this class and look forward to the second half of the semester.
