PROCEDURE
Introduction (15 min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber: Read What colour is your world by Bob Gill
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Use class discussion and questioning to review with students what common colours
we see in our world and how they are spelt.
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Students are expected to be quiet and attentive while we read the book
and talk about colours. While on the walk around the school and outside students are expected to stay in a line with
their buddy. Students must be quiet in the hallways and be respectful to other classes and staff.
Transition to Body: Handout worksheet and review expectations for the activity and students behaviour.

Body (20 min.):

Learning Activity: Scavenger Hunt
Each student will be given a clipboard and a worksheet (see below) with pictures of objects around the school. As a
class we will go on a tour of the school and school grounds. As we walk around the school student will check off each
item as they see it and write the name of its colour in the space provided. We will walk around the school and outside
on the school grounds to search for the items on the list. When I student finds the object they will explain why it is
either manufactured or natural. Once all the items have been found we will return to the classroom to colour in the
objects. Pictures need to be colour in the same colour we saw them on our class scavenger hunt.
Assessments: Students work will be collected at the end of class to check for understanding. This activity will only be

formative. Can students accurately identify colour in manufactured and natural objects?
Differentiation: Both ELL students will be able to work with a partner as we are on the scavenger hunt. Directions
will be read to them to clarify expectations.
Student with ADHD can stand when we return to the classroom to colour as well as take breaks to walk around when
needed.
Behavioural student will have EA to accompany them in the hallway as well as be there to clarify directions and give
them extra assistance when needed.

Closure (5min.):
To finish up the class we will rejoin on the carpet as a class to review the items that we found around the school and
what colour they were. A closing question to the class (and a sponge activity if there is extra time) will be to think
about what other colour these items can be found in, for example the tree we saw was green, what other colours can
trees be?
