Introduction: What do your up votes and down votes say about you? For the past couple weeks I
have been anonymous. My experiment is to see what is important or interest students at SPSU
based off up votes, down votes, and comments. I decided to use a popular app called Yik Yak to
conduct my experiment. My hypothesis is that jokes and current events at SPSU will get the
most reactions.
Methods: The methods I decided to use were different topics I thought would deal with life and
events I noticed at school. One example would be how the weather is outside, or something that
happened in stingers. After sending out my yaks, I divided them up into categories. But, I only
used the yaks that were popular in the certain area based off up votes and comments. There was
no way to put down votes, because once down voted a certain number of times, it disappears. I
chose these methods because it was a fair and effective way in collecting the data needed for my
experiment.
Results: After a couple weeks of collecting data, my research gave me some interesting results. I
saw that my spontaneous yaks and the mentioning of KSU received the most attention. The
examples below show the two yaks. One is based off up votes and the other is based off of
comments.

Dicussion: Based on my results, I see that students at SPSU like random and weird yaks. In
contrast, I noticed that they dont like the yaks about KSU. This is significant, because this
shows that students like unusual and unque ideas. Also, I noticed that they are not open minded
to accepting of the merger. Basically, I learned that students here are not open to change, but like
the unusual. One example would be the week everyone raved over human vs. zombies, a
tradition at SPSU. This is something unique here at our campus. Sadly, my hypothesis was not
true. Because the popular catogries were the spontaneous and KSU areas. I was not surprised by
my results because I already understood that here is unusual than other schools. Also, knew that
students here did not like the merger either. What needs to be taken away from my experiment is
that our school needs to be more open minded to change. At the end of the experiemnt the lesson
to be learnt is that as a campus to be seen as unsocial anyomous sites and apps are a aid to dialog
between students. Even if the students dont say who they are it is a step in a postive direction in

moving forward. I see that becoming anymous didnt change who I was that carried over who I
am in real life onto yik yak. Last but not least remenber everyone should take away from this
experiement is dont abuse the privelge of being anymous its something to be used as good not
bad.
