succeed and draw inspiration from challenges.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The main objective of this project is to create and design a device that can capture the image
of living cells on a sensor, which is put inside an incubator, and transfer the image of the cells
wirelessly via wifi, Bluetooth or a transceiver to the computer lab. The camera must be
programmed to do so, by the coding that is transferred into an Arduino board.
A biosensor is an analytical device which converts a biological response into an
electrical signal. The term 'biosensor' is often used to cover sensor devices used in order to
determine the concentration of substances and other parameters of biological interest even
where they do not utilize a biological system directly. This very broad definition is used by
some scientific journals (e.g. Biosensors, Elsevier Applied Science) but will not be applied to
the coverage here.
Imaging has become an essential tool in healthcare as well as in basic science
research. Despite the huge advances in the past decades, the demand for higher sensitivity,
better resolution, improved information content and more affordable imaging techniques,
together with better image analysis techniques and information system tools, has never
been higher. Investigators in the Department of Bioengineering seek to develop such
imaging, image analysis and information system tools with ultrasound, MRI, optical imaging
and microscopy and microCT, and apply these tools to various medical, biological and other
research applications.
Physical and chemical measurements are of fundamental importance in clinical
application and in understanding the underlying biology. Improvements in patient care can
come about through identification of new markers of disease, rapid diagnoses and more
frequent or continuous monitoring, in the hospital, the clinic or ideally in the home. The
enabling technology for these exciting developments ranges from molecular probes to
whole measurement systems and encompasses chemical sensors and biosensors, low power
circuits for data processing and wireless transmission, and novel real-time signal processing.
A term used to define the transfer of images from one device to another, without
the use of cords (wirelessly). This may be as complex as capturing and recording video

through wireless security camera systems or even sending images from one smartphone to
another, or sending images from a digital camera to a printer. Wireless Imaging is supported
by wireless communication standards such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or IrDA.
Wireless imaging is a technology that also applies to the latest generation of
consumer digital cameras. Wireless-enabled digital cameras and devices supports wireless
communications cards and Internet protocols to enable users to send photos to anyone,
anywhere, at the point of capture.

Arduino Mega

The Arduino Mega is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega1280 (datasheet). It has
54 digital input/output pins (of which 14 can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analog inputs,
4 UARTs (hardware serial ports), a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack,
an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the
microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-toDC adapter or battery to get started. The Mega is compatible with most shields designed for
the Arduino Duemilanove or Diecimila.

CC3000 WiFi

The CC3000 Wifi module from Texas Instruments is a small silver package which finally brings
easy-to-use, affordable Wifi functionality to your Arduino projects. It uses SPI for
communication (not UART!) so data can be pushed as fast as you want or as slow as you
want. It has a proper interrupt system with IRQ pin so you can have asynchronous
connections. It supports 802.11b/g, open/WEP/WPA/WPA2 security, TKIP & AES. A built in
TCP/IP stack with a "BSD socket" interface supports TCP and UDP in both client and server
mode, with up to 4 concurrent socket connections.

PROBLEM ANALYSIS

Throughout our research for this project, we discovered some major problems regarding the
development of the project.
1. A camera with a normal zooming features cannot captured the image of cells.
2. A highly equipped camera with microscopic lens and built-in wifi to be used, is out of
price range.
3. The Arduino Mega board must be attached to a wifi chip or a transceiver to enable it
to transfer data wirelessly.
4. The company team members are not familiar with Arduino board and the codings.

CONCLUSION

The advanced usage of imaging devices in biology and chemistry field has raised the demand
for higher sensitivity, better resolution, improved information content and more affordable
imaging techniques, together with better image analysis techniques and information system
tools.
However, the latest technology is still at their first basis, while the newly discovered
germs, bacteria and epidemic diseases continuously attacking the human population. There
is a huge need of producing the new advanced technology that will contribute in those
fields, thus, helping to build a better nation.
Our main focus is to achieve improvement in software design, to acknowledge the
desired skills, and to prioritize the customer's needs in wireless imaging technology. We are
confident that i - Inventor has all the qualities needed to achieve the standard requirement
in competing to be the most creative, innovative and reliable engineer around.
